So i'm went to the local scrap-yard yesterday *lot's of scorts in jersey yards* looking for a L-R/disc caliper for a 93 4dr.
Anyway i'm trying to find out if the 90 2dr. GT (code 06-y2) rear disc will be ok, there is also a 91 tracer 4dr. (code 06-y2) anyone have any input on conversion #'s :computer: or thoughts on the pressure differences between the R/disc models :dontknow:

My guess is the 2nd gen has totally different rear brakes than the earlier car, what with all the Mazda gear there. I was unaware there was any 4 door with rear discs. Maybe the LX-e had it but it had 14 inch wheels so I dunno. The Tracer LTS- might have, I dunno the wheel size.

Supposedly somebody is going to write a "How To" article on how to convert the brakes to rear disc. Hopefully. one of the things mentioned in the article will be a list of donor cars. This has been discussed ad naseum elsewhere in this fourm. If you really want great brakes. see if you can get some of a 1984 Escort. I swear my old Escort brakes could stop a truck. The 1991-1996 Mazda brakes really suck.

I've been told by a fellow who once owned an 85 GT Turbo that the 1st gen brakes can be swapped out for mustang units 8O

Hopefully there's something good from the mazda parts bin to bolt up (RX-7 6pots would make me a very happy scortist  )

:?: yah that would be sweet to have an upgrade but i just want a replacement for now my left/rear caliper leaks.
anyone know how to tell for sure if a 2dr. caliper will work correctly on a 4dr..
OH also the lx-E and LTS have 14" and 4disc stock.
my LTS is 6' off the ground getting suspension on all corners, the head re-ported and built with the big valves and nitro/seal gaskets. i'm working with 10/1pistons with a miata cam 8)

Actually, when I went lookingon the internet the only Escort/Mustang references I found were for people who were replacing drum brakes in their old Mustangs with disc brakes from 1st Gen Escorts. Didn't specift GT or GT turbo (I think the brakes are the same for the GT and GT turbo anyway).

Whats up Blu. It's a safe bet that any 91-94 escort/tracer/protege equipped with rear disc will have the same caliper as your 93 4 dr. I doubt they would make a different rear caliper for 3 different models and trim levels of the same car. Hope that helps.

Just from looking online at auto parts sites, the rear brakes for 4 wheel discs are the same for all 1991-1996 Escorts and Tracers. When I find it again I'll save the info and post. If someone doesn't write a how to I'm going to start a thread on what I can find out by searching the internet and we can use that as a starting point.

:) thnx for all the advice- i had a feeling the R/discs in the 91-96 would be similar. i,m doing all the work my scort needs while it's off the road- the head is getting done while the suspension problem gets solved too.

Hey plux a fellow jersey head, what county are you in?
i'm in Essex. the corruption capital
