I was offered an electric plug-in-vehicle, a 68 VW squareback, for $300, in 1974 or 75. I didnt buy it, since I had a 60 mile commute, which was way beyond its range. Another coworker with a 15 mile commute bought it and after getting new batteries, drove it to work for several years.

What is the range on this one? The blog reads like it would be about a 15 miles round trip.

What is wrong with it that it would be that cheap? Wouldn't the batteries be worth more expensive than that?

Is there information on it anywhere?

It's an Escort with lead acid batteries (I.E. - car batteries) so it's really not worth all that much.

lead acid batteries replaced in 2017

Unless you have a short commute (according to this webpage http://www.evalbum.com/preview.php?vid=2233 , it has a range of 30 miles), it's not worth owning.

Where it potentially becomes worth owning is when you can harvest a much better hybrid battery from a junkyard (and presumably the charger as well) and install it in your Escort to get the range up more usable. That and that 30 mile range probably get when not using heating (I am assuming no air conditioning in this car).

The logistics of trying to get this home are crazy. Either pay a ridiculous amount for towing, or drive it 30 miles, let it charge for 8 hours, repeat.

You would have to already own a vehicle capable of towing, and rent one of those towing trailers.

I found the cost of renting a trailer or tow dolly was pretty pricey. High enough that I now own a tow dolly, AND a car trailer.

Just out of curiosity, what's pulling the trailer or dolly?

In VA it was a Mazda MPV - which may need a head gasket now, after being overheated.

In TX its an 86 Jeep Comanche, with a 5-speed trans.
