so i´m coming home from practice yesterday (my sister was driving, i was in the passenger´s seat) and i was mentioning the ticking coming from the engine and how the car wasn´t going to last more than a month...well about half a mile down the road we were about to execute a turn and the car sputtered for a few seconds, then stalled. now my sister being an idiot about cars didn´t even know to put the car in neutral or park, so i have to naturally do it for her and try to start it. nope, wouldn´t start. call the parentals, tell them to come, then get out (barefoot with a towel around me, swim practice i was at) and start pushing the GT down the road to the nearest parking lot, which happened to be completely full. pushed it in, parked it right in the entrance, and left it. moved it a little later to an open spot, then got it towed back to my house. now it´s just sitting in the driveway.

i´m glad the car died fast, a slow and painful death would have been hard to watch
but even though we´re not getting it fixed this time, i was wondering what could have been the problem. the obvious thing would be the valves, since there was ticking from the engine. the oil level was ok, all the plugs and wires are new, as is the timing belt. the only other thing i could think of was that the fuel filter was so damn clogged that fuel just stopped getting through.

any thoughts? better yet, any buy offers?

The sputter then stall sounds like a timing belt to me. You said it´s new but did you check it again since this happened? I dunno what else would make it die, but the ticking could´ve just been injectors.

When my car ticks like it does it´s usually the camshafts hitting the valves, which means there isn´t any oil in the car, but he said the oil was ok so i don´t know really. It could be anything, the injectors, the intake, valves, the cams, etc.

i dunno, i took it to my friend to check the timing and he said it was perfect, and he advanced it +1, and i drove away and it started ticking REALLY loud, so he set it back and the ticking continued. his dad the owner of the mechanic shop listened to it and said it was the lifters, and added some oil and the sound kinda went away, but then came back. i got home, and revved it up, heard something pop or click, and all the noise went away. this was like 1.5 months ago.

what about fuel pump? it´s been getting crappy mileage lately and lacking power...besides, i just had the crankshaft rebuilt, all new plugs, wires, timing belt...and the same thing is wrong with my dad´s z3, its lacking power and wants to stall at idle, it all happened after he got some bad gas.
