OK fellas, we have all been to "Corksport.com" sometime or another and seen the GTX engines they have such as the "1.8L T4cyl (BPturbo) w/approx 180 HP" , but the question I have is...is it worth it? For $1099
it sounds like a good deal, but has anyone done this swap, and if so, what kind of problems did you run into.I love my scort to death, but even at the point where it is in performance, I yearn for more.I want to be plumeted to the back of my seat once I hit the accelerator and 180 hp in a car as light as ours would do it I believe...I hate for the little "Ricers" to ride by and see our cars and be like "Its just an Escort", I want to be one who says "Its an Escort that will Spank Your Ass, HAA HAA HAA  " But seriously, any help would be greatly appreciated

it's worth it. you can turbo your engine for about the same as getting a turbo engine. so its up to you which you think is best. Don't forget you will need some other things like better fuel pump, guages, boost timing retard, intercooler etc. check out the article in the "Articles" section to the left. obviously just subtract anything that comes on the engine

I am going to be the guy that says "it ain't worth it" why buy the GTX when you could turbo the N/A GT engine, and easily make 180 HP.
honestly, your head flows better, and so does your intake. so buy the gtx exahuast manifold and turbo, and a piggy back computer and save some money. (just my honest opinion) (you DO have a GT right??)

Yeah I have the GT, but wouldnt turboing your regular GT engine be a bit more costly and putting it in the shop more often...I mean the GTX is already turboed and been running, with installing a Turbo, you have to buy everything you need and not considering the down time of trying to dial it in exactly..I read awhile back how Blade had alot of probs getting his tuned just right for him...180 hp out the box, just a engine swap with a few here and theres added in....I just need something with some Ooooomph!

you're going to have the same problems either way. with all that rewireing it will still be in the shop.
if the ecu would plug into your harness I'd say do it.
but I would rather wire a piggy back system than a whole car.

I know that Chris Giles at ERDT is in the process of removing the GTX head in order to swap on a US spec gt head... just to reinforce my point.
I would personally rather not swap for some thing I already have. if you had an LX I would say it was more worth it than swapping it in place of your BP.

well...as for that "more costly" remark....i dont think it would be. u might say it more costly because u'd ad boost controler, turbo timer, fuel managment...but the gtx doesnt have all that. if u just part for part it to make it identical to the gtx....i DOUBT it would cost more than 500...if u went elsewhere for the turbo and not pay 300 from corksport....nah....50 0 i say will give u a stock gtx conversion from ur gt motor.

1099 for a turbocharged, plug and play engine is not bad. turbo'ing your existing 1.8 for 1099 is also no bad. but, if you want max hp out of the engine, rebuild it. I put together a list of everything I'm having done to my spare 1.8 block and head.

Go Here for my list: http://www.feoa.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3049

I plan on spending what it takes to make it a total street sleeper & V8 supercar killer. A 13.5 quarter mile is what I'm aiming for at the track at least once, if i get better than that, I won't mind.

Well thanks for the list there James, quite extensive...But here is another question for you gurus out there..If I do just go turbo, how much can i expect to get out of it..HP wise, I need something that is going to be reliable but also quite peppy..I know that any major upgrades to a motor will reduce its life expectancy, but I am looking for a daily driver with lots of the "Ooomph"..and also , where can I pcik up just the turbo system itself with all the other go fast goodies I need...I just looked at corksport once again and they have "MUCHO" stuff, but no turbos, from what I seen anyways....and once again, thanx guys for your help and info :D
