SO I figure I am going to do some custom work to the interior of my car. I want the dash area to remain semi-stock, but as far as everything else, I could care less.

I was thinking, since interior parts are somewhat difficult to come by, why not replace the plain jane interior parts with other vehicle parts? I figure the first thing I want to change is the dome light and cabin lighting. I am quite fond of how some of the newer cars have illumination of the doors when you open them, i.e. many Hyundais. I know that they arent going to be a direct bolt-on, but its okay, i like a challenge. Any ideas what dome lights look the best?

I would love to do the full MX-3 swap but the problem is finding some with full interiors or one in decent shape. What I found is people tend to junk the rare cars like that when either code enforcement gets on their case for having a disabled vehicle or if it has been abandoned and the tow company scraps it, after taking most of the good parts.

The problem too is, not to come off racist or nothing, it seems that if you don't speak spanish, you don't get a good deal on parts. For instance, I was buying an interior part for my car at one yard, it cost me 6 bux. Next week, went for another interior part, crazy lady told me it was $17.95...half off. I told her she was nuts and threw the part into one of the other cars nearby and left. I wont be going back to them anymore, even though they have one of the biggest yards. But there is plenty more.

Any links to that MX-3 swap?

I don't think the steering wheel is an easy sway, the splining is completely different.

That is one reason I wish I had a wagon. With a little work, you can make it look badass like the red one he got for the BP donor motor. I love the look of his 2-door wagon. It almost looks like it came from the factory like that. Almost looks like a 2-door Impreza wagon. Is that someone here on the forums?

he is a member here, goes by Dimmwatt.... Casey to those who really know him. He does very nice work... just look at that car, as well as his old wagon, and his Jeep.

As for the MX3 dash, it is narrow compared to the Escort dash, so you have to make up space on either side. There aren't door panels available that will line up, so that is custom work as well. I had one of those dashs in my car for about a day or so trying to figure out how I would make it look like it belonged there... then I swapped it out for a different style dash.

I was thinking of instead of the MX-3 dash, going with the protege or the 323 interior. The MX-3 is hard to find in most yards here, especially with a good interior. Most MX-3 are ripped apart or the panels are completely dry rotted.

Here is another idea I was thinking. What do you think about putting in a roof mounted overhead console with front and rear mounted map lights and a centrally mounted dome. I was looking at this one or this one and converting the storage pods into a drop down GPS unit, iPod Dock, etc, to try to give it a unique look. Lemme know your thoughts and ideas. I was thinkin of takin a trip to the J/Y to experiment.

93 Escort Lx Wagon

Is the MX3 the best interior to look for parts for my escort ? right now i am mainly looking to replace the utilitarian stock front seats. not looking for racing seats just trying to get a little more comfort for me and the wife any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way this is my first Escort and so far i am very pleased with the performance and MPG.

The MX3 seats in many opinions are a superior seat to the Escort's, even the GT's. They will also sit you a little lower, like an inch or so. You can also use the Protege/323 seats, but they are basically the same as the Escorts, just come in different upholstery.

I was gonna use a Jimmy overhead thing like that in my EGT and when i go boost, where the little pockets are for sunglasses and such put my boost gauge A/F gauge and Oil pressure gauge in there

At least I am not crazy thinkin I am the only one who wants to try this. I just haven't gone to the J/Y to play around and test fit some things. It has been raining a lot here and it seems to do it on the days I want to go to the J/Y.

94 wagon, installed 98 Protege front seats, very nice comfort improvement. Would like to find MX3 seats but in the great white north pickin's are slim , only one JY to work with within 100 miles....
