I´d like to repaint my interior dash and any plastic parts inside the car. I want to do the dark grey in a dark red, the lighter grey in a lighter red and the black in white, and maybe the vents blue...just thought of that....a little patriotic, yeah, well, anyway my question is for those who have already done this mod, what kind of paint did you use? winters are brutally cold and summers can be insanely hot. So I need something to withstand that and I want it to last, can I get some regular paint from my local hardware store? or would I need to spend a shit load on some custom automobile paint?? It´s possible to do this when my car is having the engine rebuilt and it´s just sittin there, being a lawn ornament. Thanks in advance. :)

a friend of mine who did that kinda thing on his grand am just simply used spray paint. so far, it´s still looking good. it made things kinda interesting when the colors would change with the blacklights he had.

Mar-Hyde Vinyl and Plastic Dye. Use it just like spray paint.. Find it at any automotive chain on the paint aisle. It will actually die a bit of the plastic and or vinyl the color and it will last (or so I´ve heard). It´s not too pricey either ;-)

yeh, that dye is supposed to be pretty dang good...go to a junk yard and when they arent lookin, break off a little hunk of a dash and throw her in ur pocket. then test paint it and leave it in ur car exposed to the same crap it gets everyday and see how it withstands?? Maybe i´m bein a little to careful, but if i got it to look nice, well i´d surely wanna keep it that way.

James-

my buddy Neal just did his Toyota mini truck and this is what he did:
-removed dash
-sanded dash down smoth and wiped the dust off real good
-fiberglassed some stuff that he wanted to make smooth
-sanded that down real good and wiped off the dust
-primered dash real good and let it dry
-painted a couple layers over dash and let dry
-few coats of clear and let dry
-put dash in.

:-D

u can try that. if yougot questions, just hit me up and will try to answer as best as i can. and if i dont know the answer, i can call Neal up and ask him. hope this helps some....btw thanks again for the ashtray :-D

Thats cool yeah I might have the time to be able to remove everything when i get the engine out. You´re welcome for the ashtray, my car looks a little weird without it, but hey it´s a few ounces weight savings :p

I did the interior in my 89 Pony.. I didn´t even sand anything down, I just removed everything, washed it with a damp rag, dried it, primed it, and painted it. I just used some rustoleum or something that we had around the shop - hasn´t chipped yet. Make sure to use a clearcoat. ;)

To get it to look right, I think you have to take the entire dash out and basically do the whole front of the car. It´s a big project, and photoshop and a camera can really give you a good idea of what you´re doing. I would recommend something like this:
<img src=http://images.cardomain.com/installs/253000-253999/253906_22_full.jpg>

However, he goes all the way to the b pillar and into the back seat area, so it´s quite a job. If you found a way to keep the paint up near the front and still make it look meaningful, then you´d save yourself a ton of paint and work from having to go into the back of the car.

of course you don´t have to everything at once...i lust have my lower dash and running boards done so far, but plan to go completely front to back with a caymen green (my stock outside color, or teal or whatever), and a light sky blue to match my pedals and cd head unit.

i didn´t do any sanding either, just scrubbed up the pieces real good, dry, primer, slightly dry (this brand primer said apply color paint a few mins after applying...), paint coat 1, dry, coat 2, dry. a couple curved pieces from the parts by my feet/pedals took a few coats more, but turned out awesome. and if you´re doing your door panels as well, mask them well! it´s pretty tricky getting around the curved speaker areas, but it´s WOW amazing looking afterwards.

i needs some better weather to take some good pics, then i gotta work on my small webpage to post all the pics i have, 4 just ain´t cuttin it ;)

gl with whatever you go for!

i did it to mine and it was really easy to do.. one point of advice though is to move your stearing wheel to the lowest position, i had to shorten the hazard lights switch to make it easier..

Hondas are like belly-buttons. Everybodys got one!

It´s sort of weird that this came back up in the 25 last posts...cause one of my cluster lights burnt out last night so I´m going to need to tear it apart to get to it, while I´m at it I´m thinking about doing my red paint scheme along with re running my amp wire through the firewall.

Okay, boys! I have a ´95 Escort LX. This will sound really girly I´m sure.... but I recently painted parts of my dash as well, except I used multicolor glitter spray paint. It turned out awesome, and I´m planning on doing a few more parts with the same color including the underside of my rear deck to cover some scratches from the revious owner. Definitely use clearcoat....I found some that was UV protectant which has worked great all winter and even in the summer heat of the Midwest. Good luck to all taking on this project. Be careful around the hazard light switch...its pretty tricky. null ;-)

the glitter is a multicolored spray. No not sequins!!! lol.... Its looks pretty cool....if yo´ve ever seen teh interior of the "teal" LX´s ..its got all kinds of colors woven into the fabric.... and the glittter pain ti used has all differnt colors. Its pretty cool. And you know how I mention that the hazard light is tricky....that is b/c I broke the switch off line on accident. Does anybody know how to fix that? The switch part that you push down to turn on your hazards is gone. Out of curioiusity I have looked at it and tried to see if I could turn them on by pressing gently wiht my finger...(okay..so I´m an electrical accident waiting to happen.) and I still get nothing. ..I know I know..I need pics. You guys are motivating me. Thanks! And if anybody knows how to fix that post on here for me...prett please!??!

THANKS!
