im looking to run a homemade intake cuase the my intake hose is shot. is there a way to bypss the mass air flow sensor or do i have to incorporate that into my plans? imnot looking to buy one im looking to just well fix the problem with a better solution anyone have any words to say like dos/donts? whats out there for filters for an open design? thanks for anyinfo anyone wants to put out there?

without the air flow sensor, how is your ECU supposed to know how much air is getting into the engine?

Wow, yeah, what Silverton said. I think you have some reading to do. I would like to suggest starting with the 3rd Gen forum sticky titled "The all encompassing intake thread".

you can check out escortfocus.com and click on tech and info then go to the mods. tab for starters.granted as someone pointed out earlier,take all the info you find with a grain of salt and make a synthesis out of all you gather.
i don`t know what generation `scort you`ve got but,you can easily piece together an aftermarket open air filter and adapter that fits in front of your mass air sensor ,like i did, for pretty cheap from most larger parts stores or off the web.you just replace the stock airbox completely.there are plenty of excelent do it yourself setups to see on this site!
