thanks for answering my questions before and suggestin to buy and K&N cone filter and "cutting my box" but how do I got about doing this? i thought with our cars there was the little box before the computer thing and this is where the thin little paper filter was at, so I don´t really understand. Please explain this to me better, hopefully someone has picures of before and after or even just after.

Here´s how I did it Nate:

okay unscrew the airbox, its a pain in the arse but take it out. Unbolt the airbox from the VAF.

Okay, now the box will come into two pieces, an upper piece and a bottom piece that the filter sits in.

When you pull the filter out you´ll see the 1.5" hole or whatever it was that the air come in at. You need to make that bigger, so just cut the bottom of the box, but becareful to make sure that the filter will still be held by what will look like a Rim left. I think the cut out measurement was something like 8x10 when I was done.

enjoy. When you do it right with a K&N drop in filter you can hear the flapper in the VAF slam up everytime you rev the car.

Quite a bit of difference actually. (I made the same mod) Alot more at high RPM´s cause it can get a lot more air. Just the K&N is still restricting because there´s no more air being supplied if the filter doesn´t have access to an more.

I did the cut airbox thing, and now I have a K&N cone with my turbo set up, the cut box was just as effective as the cone set up and about 50 bucks cheaper.

If someone really wants I have the cut airbox and a K&N filter that´s dirty, but only has 25k miles on it. Make an offer.

i just made my own intake this weekend.. it took me a while to figure out how to do it (trial and error) but now it is all together and it looks quite uber.. i will have to add up how much everything costs and how to make it.. but i will keep you posted..
i think it may be considered a cold air intake, but i am not sure.. i have to go get the pictures developed so that you all can see it..

well if you cut the box, you can´t use a cone filter. Its the 8x12 filter that lays on the rim left of the box. You can get the filter from any parts store.

If you get a cone filter....I just went to a performance shop and they saw my box, and kept bringing out filters until I found one that fit my machined adaptor plate. Its kinda small though.

All bets are off on the intakes, I made mine with a 2 1/2" I.D. radiator hose, bypassing the upper resonator (the one closest to the throttle body.) I removed the other muffler and made no further modifications to the intake. This system has improved mid range torque and made a mild horsepower improvement. The total cost for this is under $50. Low budget and it looks bone stock, sleeper´s rule.
