Thats the Mass Airflow Sensor, and as far as I know it needs to be in the intake air stream, to let the PCM know how much air is arriving. Isnt there also a smaller sensor whose purpose is to let the pcm know how cool the air is? That either needs to be in the air stream or near it - so it will sense the intake air, rather than the air temp under the hood. The air under the hood is always going to be hotter than what gets sucked into the original air filter box from the inlet near the fender.

it should unscrew, I just drilled a hole to the right size in my intake and put epoxy on the sensor threads and screwed it in, air tight fix, that will still break loose if it ever goes bad

Hate to bring back an old thread, but I have a 1994 Escort LX, with a panel filter, but I just got a new cone filter, and have almost devised a way to get it installed, but no where to put the air temp sensor. Where exactly did you put it? Pictures would be incredible, if available. Thanks, Eric
