you guys.... i had a thought..... since my EGT's engine is a mazda engine, =from japan, would my car be considered a rice burner??? even though it's a ford????? and on top of that, would that make me a RICER?????? (don't worry, if it does, i have an excellent plan)

Um sure...

Your engine is the little brother to the two turbocharged JDM versions. It's the only 1.8L BP series engine offered in North America, so you could call it the USDM version...that would lead me to believe that no it is not a "rice burner" but V8 guys give that name to all four bangers, whether its faster than their allmighty torque monsters or not. It is not a ford, it's the mazda engineered and built setup. The 1.9/2.0s are Fords.

I didn't become a paying member until around January (notice that pic has snow in it...)

Anyway, go here for stickers:

Or...you could sign up and become a paying FEOA member for 10 a year and get two free stickers shipped to your front door (which is what I did)

You know I have an escort GT windshield banner...already made...and it's blue too...I'd sell it to you for $15 bucks if you want it. I never got around to putting it on my car and it's been sittin in the box for like a year now. :)

I know I also have an extra FEOA.net sticker, but I won't sell it cause someday I might have another Escort.

Here's my quick thought on the original thread:

Our GT Motors are: Japanese designed, high reving, 4 cylinder, relatively high compression, low displacement, fuel efficient motors....
....basically Rice!, HOWEVER,
I feel that a "ricer" is a state of mind, or more percisely a "poser" in a lifestyle in which they're knowledge base doesn't support.

So, honda civic ex, D16Y series 1.6L vtec motor, driver adds:
18" chrome wheels (picture a set of niche's)
Dual level aluminum wing,
10k rpm tach on dash
Dual exhaust
.....oh yeah, its an automatic
----VERDICT----
RICE: why? -->why have a 10k tach on an auto? why run dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder..not enough exhaust flow could actually cause a loss of power, or in this case not enough back pressure, Chrome?!?..too heavy, too slow, The wing...I guess its just too trendy...how about, not aluminum?

So, Honda Civic Si B16A Vtec motor, driver adds
16" painted lightweight wheel with like Falken Azenis'
leaves the coupe style spoiler
5Zigen header back exhaust
10k rpm tach
Not rice: because
lightweight wheels matched with tires for getting an optimal performance level
the factory spoiler is actually functional and sexy
Tuned N/A exhaust
10k rpm tach...well, forgot to mention the reprogramed Hondata computer that supports a solid 9k rpm rev...so the tach is functional.

See, I guess the difference is the driver. If you add stuff to your ride to support you're driving habits, then its not rice...just understand there will always be a 5.7L or 4.6L(or old 5.0L) drivers that will call anything rice, specially when it spanks them light to light.

(if you know what cars run those displacements, you are car junky, and probably not a "ricer", and when you think about it, those are Anti-Ricer type of personalities that have to make you laugh)

----Justin, Hey man, I meant that as just "those types" , I have to agree there are people like yourself that are into 5.0L, 4.6L, and 5.7L vehicles that are serious tuners too ;-)

I still think that tach would be rice. :? Because well, if you're talking about the 99-00 b16a2, the stock 8k rpm tach will support up to 9500 rpms with the reprogrammed hondata ECU, there is no need for the big tach as the stock one will still do the job quite nicely. Now if it's on the 94-95 b16a3 Del Sol VTEC, then maybe...I don't know where the tach ends on that one....although I'm fairly sure that it's basically the same motor, (save for that the a2 is OBD2 and the a3 is OBD1) and will support the same rev limit boost.

But on the 96-00 D16y series (y5, y7, y8.)...why bother? they aren't tuner cars and range from 106 hp to 127 hp. The Si/GSR dohc vtec engines are a better platform to start from IMO.
