So, I started out with two escort lx's. and then moved on to an older toyota supra. On my third one now, but I've got the bug to get back into Escort's. But it has to be a GT! Couple on craigslist that need minimal work, going to take a look at a 91 tomorrow, needs a new tire and the radiator overflow is cracked, neither of those are too big of an issue

why a GT may I ask?

wasnt a bad car, motor made decent hp - but unless your going BP swap - comeeven farther into the dark and slip into a 3rd gen with way more tq.

I like the body style more, and I do plan on putting a snail on the side.

look at the 1.9/2L hybrids and what foundnemo25 just did with a SPI - 371hp 422 ft/lb trq -

In no way am I saying dont get it - but think of a motor swap w/ that snail.

Definitely nice numbers for such a small engine, but I'm not looking to turn it into a race car. Just need something that is good on gas and reliable, while still looking and feeling sporty. I'm just gonna do some BPU's and then look into the bigger stuff later when I'm more financially stable.

if your adding a snail, your wanting more speed, not per say a race car - but more power.

Well of course I want more power, but I don't want near what he got. I'd be happy with close to 180-200whp.

SPI - 10psi t3/t4 and your set - or 75shot N2O like me

N/A when I wanna and spray when I wanna... conserves gas at $3/gallon 93 octane.

I still prefer the 2nd gen body style though. Would be easy enough to just get an LX and swap the SPI bottom end in. We'll see, I kinda had it set in my mind that I wanted a 4th gen Celica GT-S or an Escort GT

grab the car - swap in an SPI - rework the head so no valve seat issue to haunt you - drop in the snail and drive away happy.

with the right work - Escort > Celica-GTS

I've owned an LX and there is no way any one could talk me into buying another one again after buy my GT.
Haha, ever since my first LX wagon I had wanted a GT. I also learned a lot of stuff while owning the supras, I have four engine swaps under my belt, I replaced all the suspension components in the current one. When/If I get the GT I'll be doing intake, exhaust, and suspension in the first few months of owning it. I'm pretty sure it's been covered before, but are there any bolt-ons from a newer model that will improve the 91EGT? I think I remember reading that the 93EGT TB is larger is diameter. I just remember someone saying 93 was was "best" as it had the big TB and none of the extra weight from airbags.

Ehhhh...... i'm not positive i would agree with that.

Seeing that i own/have owned both, i can see both sides of this. Keep in mind i love my Escort for what it is. And no, i'm not going to compare my 5th gen Celica GT, thats an ENTIRELY different ballpark.

Both platforms have GREAT potential. That being said: The Celica wins pretty much every category except initial investment. Build quality is higher. Ergonomics and driving comfort are about 70 million levels higher. A stock 4th gen GTS in good shape will run all over even a 2nd gen GT in every performance aspect stock vs. stock. Looks (opinion, i won't go either way). The aftermarket is a wash.... not great for either car. Engine swaps? 3sgte vs. BPT, we'll call that a wash, though the 3sgte continued longer and is a bit more robust and way easier to find. The BPT seems like a physically easier swap. Slightly.

Bottom line is, get what you want. I would give the slight performance edge to the Celica, but the Escort will be easier to find in good shape. Nice 4th gen GTSs hard getting hard to find.

Yup, that's the problem I'm having right now. There are only a few out there right now and they seem to need work.

Sweet! Double post. haha.

It's blue, I would have realized that if I had actually read the whole ad, lol. From the pictures it looked caymen green. Anyway, manual windows and locks, no sunroof. driverside auto belt is a little frayed. Overflow bottle is cracked I guess and leaks. On the test drive, I noticed some coolant on top of the transmission that hadn't been there before, one of the coolant by-passes that goes through the TB had a slit in it so it would spray at 3k+. No biggie, it's just a 5" piece of hose. Looks like NEW headlights had been bought for it since they weren't crazy oxidized. Suspension definitely needs a refreshing, but had planned on that already. Overall, a good little car and I'm picking it up for $700.

Oh yeah, and on a side note, the A/C feels ice cold!
