Hi all,

absolute newb here. I had a clunking sound in the engine. I think it may have been a valve seat drop from reading posts in the 3rd gen board. I have 2001 sedan. My mechanic said it probably threw a rod and recommended replacing it with a used engine. anyone have any thoughts? I'm in a jam and barely know enough to ask the right questions. Thanks for any input.

The only decrease in power is when I started and it is sluggish. This was only occasional or intermittent until the last time when it failed to start. Battery was fine and it wasn't flooded. It just wouldn't keep going. Other than those times it would start and run like a charm.

Maybe occasional decreases in power, but I would attribute that to an air conditioner at times.

Does a valve seat have any relation to a "thrown rod"?
