Man this bites!I was offered the job I´ve been after today. It has all the ammenities.6 lift garage, access to the auto parts store, and God forbid the tow trucks should I need one,not to mention inside knowledge of cars that are going to auction.(this is how I buy running scorts from $5 us)Now the down side, they offered to start me at like 25% less then I asked for.I don´t want to seem ungrateful but damn.If my car was my only concern I´d already be there. But I don´t want to live here for ever and taking a cut like that now could really hurt when I move back towards Seattle. But for here it´s not too unreasonable.(there is a huge difference in cost of living as this is the most depressed county in the state, which makes decent jobs few and far between)I told em I´d have to think about it and I have till Monday.Seattle is like 110 miles and there´s not alot of traffic for like 90 miles so I could possibly commute.it´s only like 1hr and 15 minutes each way.(unless you do the speed limit)I just hate to keep racking the miles on Mickey and poor Georgie may not last at 4400 miles a month(tip o the hat to my ol 94 that did it for two years or 105600miles)it is just hard on a car and there´s two mountain passes and one they don´t call a pass but it´s big enough to have an elevation sign. What would you do?

Hey Puff,
Look at it this way, there is always another opportunity. Getting a better job will help you get to where you want to go, not make you stay where you´re comfortable. If it were me I would consider better pay to have my own lift
Anyhow, another concern is the mileage, despite how fast you can make the trip, that´s alot of mileage and alot of distance to get stranded should something go wrong.

G´luck

And then there´s the fine art of negotiation. Talk to them about your situation, and sell yourself to them to let them know you are worth more than they are offering. Kind of like being a used car sellsman. And then if they say their is no way they can give you more, don´t take the job. Sure it´s what you´ve been looking for, but if you have something that pays better now it would be silly to take a cut like that for any reason. Just keep looking till you find the best of both worlds. There are other jobs out there, you just have to find them. Dreams come and go, but making a living is reality. Thats why I´m serving coffee at Starbucks right now, and not out trying to be a NASCAR driver. Sure being a NASCAR dirver would be nice, but I don´t have the means to do it right now, so I gotta pay the bills some how.

Hey thanks guys. And as far as the salesmanship,my references are from the best companys in the area and I hold a W.T.T.A.certification that only 11% of people in my profession have obtained ,it´s the reason I got my last job.The company was a member of the tow truck association but had no certified operators.I think you´re right,I´ll hold out but the offer is already more than any of thier employees are making.I´ll also ask around and find out what they are like to work for.It is rather nice to interview a company, rather then be interviewed. Thanks guys!
