Pop the hood and make sure that the throttle cable has plenty of slack and is no binding. I had that problem too and it turned out to be the ETC sensor! If it keeps telling the computer that the engine is cold, the computer will idle the engine high like when u start up in winter! try these and see how they work!

ahhh i see, i cant tell the engines temp cuz that gage is broken, and my engine can get hot really fast with in a min u could probbaly cook a egg on it and, aftr just going around the block once and turning it off
Yeah, Jump on that sensor as soon as possible! But only get it from the Ford dealership!! May cost almost double but it works. Ive melted 2 other ones not made by Ford.

If your escort is a 1.8 liter and you want to get factory replacement parts for your engine, go to your local mazda dealership and tell them you have a 1.8 liter DOHC protege (appropriate year). Any engine part you get from ford is pretty much a 30% markup from mazda.

You melted two colant temperature sensors? :-o
How did that happen?
What brands were they?
at 1k?? engine cold idles at about 1.5k to 2k..... anywhere from 800 to 1k is normal...with the gt that is
i went through this on one of my work vehicles it ended up being the torque converter, we changed almost everything electrical first. but the toque converter did the trick. especially if you just got the tranny rebuilt and they didnt replace it. then again this was for a 95 s10 but you never know might cause a similiar situation

You must have bought one of those cheap Borg-Warner ones that are made of plastic. They showed me one of those at Pep Boys and I told them that it was a POS and to keep it. Lt looked more like an air temp sender than a cooling temp sender.
