95 escort 1.9 automatic

sometimes in park at idle the car will be running fine and then suddenly just bog and cut off. It won't do it in drive or what not but recently it has started acting like it wants to cut off.

I can actually feel the car idling badly in gear now to the point the car shakes somewhat.

I cleaned out the IAC valve with brake cleaner as I've done with countless other fords, I cleaned off the MAF filaments, and I even cleaned the sensor inside the stock air box. checked the filter while I was in there.

I can't think of anything else that it could be but it doesn't seem like this changed anything?

anyone else got any more ideas??

Vac. leak, bad plugs/coil pack/wires. How many miles on it? You might check the compression ratio to make sure the headgasket isn't going.

When was the last time you replaced your O2 sensor?
Does the car run fine when it's cold?

it's got a 98 1.9l from a rolled escort wagon it with approximately 32k on it. Actually, there was a vacuum hose that was disconnected after the engine swap but I "thought" I found it's "other half" and connected them. But that really never changed anything.

plugs/wires/coil all were from the low mileage motor but I was thinking of checking the plugs this weekend while the engine was cold (only driver).

car runs fine when cold except that if you immediately crank it and toss it in gear you have to give it a quick pop on the gas to keep it from cutting off....after that it just goes and goes.

o2 sensors are from the low mileage car. we robbed everything we could think of from the low mileage donor just so we wouldn't have to deal with high mileage parts crapping out on us

Check to see if your egr valve is bolted on tight to your engine.

OK, is your throttlebody from the 95 engine, or from the 98?
Which engine is the throttle position sensor from?
When you swapped engines, did you use the main harness from the old engine, new engine, or some of both (spliced wires)?
Do you have a CEL light on?
Do you know how to run a code check on your scort?

we ran the tests on it (i'd run them again but forgot and left my scanner in charleston with the mustang doh!), anyway, it checked out fine cept the boo test and the throttle test (since I didn't hit the brakes or pop the throttle hehe). Interesting thing though, when it was doing the last part of the test where you hear the engine bog and stuff...just shut off on us haha. maybe that has something to do with it?

no CEL lights. Passes atlanta emissions spotlessly. EGR is bolted on fine but I'll check again tomorrow for argument sake.

Um, to the best of memory we pulled the entire engine from the 98 w/t.body/tps but used the original harness from the 95?? There are no spliced wires and I can almost guarantee they were too lazy to pop the intake manifold/etc since this was going to be a "turn around" car before I decided to swipe it for a daily putter car while in the middle of projects.

I could be wrong on some of the swap info and I'll call home and confirm/deny that stuff here shortly for you guys.

Also, tomorrow I can take some pics of the vacuum line I'm talking about or other things if you need pics to better diagnose this thing for me. heh.
