i have a 93 wagon 1.9 litre automatic with a/c.

sometimes the idle will plummet down even to the point of stalling . it can do this with the engine warm or cold. another problem, which may not be related, is that there is a bit of stumbling going on at speeds over 55 mph (90kph). nothing serious, but it's noticeable

new plugs, fuel filter and air filter didn't cure it, and a visual check of the plug wires shows no damage.

can't find any obvious vacuum leak ... there is a mild hissing in the intake area but i don't know whether that is a small leak or normal intake sound.

anybody had this problem ?

could be a vacuum leak, could be a bad throttle position sensor (TPS)

Look where the PCV elbow meets the intake mani. Check for cracks, especially on the back side of the elbow. That is a known problem, one that I experienced multiple times.

How many miles are on the car?
I replaced my IAC at 150,000 miles, and wish I had replaced it earlier.
I also suspect vacuum leaks. get a Mityvac and learn hot to use it.
