so I bought a new-for-me car too. (Don't worry, i'm keeping the escort also).

It's a '99 Taurus SHO
Black, gray leather, dual power seats, auto climate control... it's night and day with the escort.. 38k miles. $11.5

i haven't taken it above 120 since it was raining last night (yes beaver, i'm still alive)

worst experience of the entire experience.. SHO engines are extremely highly tuned engines that NEED 92 octane fuel. My salesman filled it up with 87. I had to wait for a mechanic there to siphon out 17 gallons of fuel, because it was pinging so bad it would barely idle. hahahah. dummies.

just like the one below, but black.

edit - btw, it's an automatic (all '96-'99 SHO's are), with a 3.4 V8. Everything from the headgasket up was designed and produced by Yamaha, and it's rated at 235hp. Weeee. Top speed is one-forty-something. :) Pray for me.

Not to rain on your parade but you should have bought a real SHO not a gen III. The gen I and II's can take 87 octane and run just as smooth as if they had 92 in them. I hope the cam problem was fixed on that car if it was one of the ones affected, you should really do some research on those gen III's. I took a test drive in a 99 last summer and after driving my 89 and my dads 94 the 94 being the slower of the two that 99 felt like a dog. The top speed is 137 with rev limiter the top speed on the gen I and II's is 140. Wow $13,500 that is a lot for an SHO you could have gotten a nice manual 94 with 60,000 miles for at most $4000, that is $9,000 left over for the 3.6 stroker and the stage 3 supercharger which all together will give you about 500 hp. 8O Oh and these cars are EXTREMELY high maintance, for the 60,000 tune up for mine it costs $900 and dont get me started on how much it costs to repair these things.

 You were jealous of me. well you get to keep the f**ing car... :x

Anyway, Gen III SHOs are notorious for cams destroying the engine. Have the Cams been welded yet? If not it it's a short drive to GA for you to have the top expert mechanic do it for you.

Viper is the SHO guy. Listen to him, but don't get mad, because Gen IIIs have potential too. Instead of welding the cams, just get new higher performance ones, hell it already takes 91+ octane already. put that to good use.

I will hopefully have a Black 2000 Civic SI w/ 35k miles.............................................. if I can get approved for it. I'll know by Monday at noon. if I don't get approved I'll go in and have a chat. I have good credit, just not enough lines of credit. I hate credit.

Thanks james, I have never liked the gen III's espically after I drove that one last summer it just didnt feel like an SHO. Would your parents co-sign on a loan for you? If you do not find a car mine is still for sale LOL.

Not to rain on your parade but you should have bought a real SHO not a gen III. - oh, please continue.

The gen I and II's can take 87 octane and run just as smooth as if they had 92 in them. - .. umm.. ok?

I hope the cam problem was fixed on that car if it was one of the ones affected, you should really do some research on those gen III's. - i'm driving to gaithersburg in 2 weeks to get them welded.

I took a test drive in a 99 last summer and after driving my 89 and my dads 94 the 94 being the slower of the two that 99 felt like a dog. - stock for stock, a gen3 0-60 is 7.4 and a gen2 is around 7.3. fairly close.

The top speed is 137 with rev limiter the top speed on the gen I and II's is 140. - i had it up to 142 earlier this morning, and theoretically the rev limiter won't kick in until 190+. the top speed on gen1 and 2 is anywhere from 140 - 150 depending on the car. who needs to do more research?

Wow $13,500 that is a lot for an SHO you could have gotten a nice manual 94 with 60,000 miles for at most $4000, that is $9,000 left over for the 3.6 stroker and the stage 3 supercharger which all together will give you about 500 hp. - does that come with a 3 year/36000 mile warranty? does that come with free clutch/engine mount replacement? does it come with free transaxle replacement? does that still come with the same shitty interior? oh.. no? well shat.

8O Oh and these cars are EXTREMELY high maintance, for the 60,000 tune up for mine it costs $900 and dont get me started on how much it costs to repair these things. - i don't have a gen1 or gen2, so my first major tune up isn't due until 100k miles.

any more questions?

haha thanks man. like i said, i'm gettin' 'em welded in 2 weeks up in MD, and no one makes high-perf. replacements for them. :) it puts the stock cams to good enough use.

good luck with the civic, and way to join the bandwagon, hippie. :)

I like the SHO, the 92-95 sedans with the updated fascia were my favorite, but the 96-99 SHOs looked cool. I love pointing them out to my coworkers and brother who are always anti-ford. :D
i love gen2's, but i wanted a car that girls wouldn't mind riding in (it's still by no means a chick magnet), and i wanted a warranty with it. those are two things i cannot get with a gen2.

i'm still planning on going fast, and for that, i'm keeping the EGT.

I was just letting you know that they can run on the lower octane.

Thats cool when those things go they cause major damage.

For the automatic yes but I am talking about the manuals.

I said do more research on the car in general.

Yeah the SHO shop does have warranties and I like the interiror better in the gen I and II's a lot better.

8O Oh and these cars are EXTREMELY high maintance, for the 60,000 tune up for mine it costs $900 and dont get me started on how much it costs to repair these things. - i don't have a gen1 or gen2, so my first major tune up isn't due until 100k miles.

Thats great my point still stands they are all extremely expensive to maintain.

any more questions?

I don't knw anything at all about your new car but, in the looks department, it's gorgeous.

Btw., hope you enjoyed the race - bit wet for spectators but certainly made interesting viewing from my sofa!! Big Up for Michael (sorry to the detractors) - the Japanese Grand Prix will be something to watch!!

I didn't know you were a NASCAR fan, Foxy. Yep, Michael Waltrip won (sorry to the detractors). I didn't know it rained though... but hey I only watched a few laps in the middle. I heard that the Craftsman Truck series is going to allow the Toyota Tundra pickup to represent a racecar body next year. Only a matter of time before the Camry, Accord and Mazda 6 are all representing on the big ovals... But I wouldn't go so far as to call it a Japanese Grand Prix just yet :D

PS: I know you were talking about Schumacher

OH!! Sorry, really thought the mention of the race was the US F1 Grand Prix and, yes, I am a fan of NASCAR but, sadly, we don't get to see it very often these days on TV as is also the case with Champ Cars which I absolutely LOVE!! Especially the ovals!! We used to get every Champ race, but not anymore. If you were being a bit sarky........

PS: Having just re-read Viper's post, yes you were being sarky!! :D :?

I throughly enjoyed that race, it was my first GP and by far not my last I am definitely going back next year. I got some killer pics to. The rain was not that bad, it was more of an annoying sprinkle than anything else, the hail was pretty interesting that started about 15 min before the race started.

Glad you had a good time - must have been great to actually be there!! I'm jealous!! :? Pity the Canadian Grand Prix has been dumped but it looks as though N.Am is going to keep the US race judging by the number of spectators there this year.

I would not be to sure that the US GP will be here to much longer, the attendance was down again, but maybe next year if canada does not get put back on the sechdule the attendance might go back up. I trust bernie as far as i can throw him, he is all about the money greedy bastard.
