well i noticed a problem today while driving around town , while shifting, when i shift to second or third gear, my car jumps like an import on bad shocks. does anybody know what i can do to stop this.

also, i´ve been hearing that "marble" noise, but i havent noticed it since i dropped in some Motor Honey, so maybe thats gone. but, for a good subject, hondas are stupid stupid stupid slow cars, i recently tore a new hole in a 89 honda civic (the four door model, and yes it was all modded out, unlike my scort its stock under the hood.)

Is your scort jumping while you´re on the clutch actually shifting, or when you let the clutch out?
Describe that "marble noise´ for us. Is it constant, does it change with RPMs, is it only when you shift, etc?
How many miles are on your scort? Are the clutch and trans original?

Anytime someone describes a noise under the hood as similar to a marble roling around in the bottom of a can I always think water pump. If you are curious and can´t come up with a mental image of that noise put marble in the bottom a soup can. compare that with a bad water pump. Exactly the same. I know this is corny but when you listen to enough customers describe a noise the same way...

my motors fairly new, i´ve rebuilt it with all new parts, etc.. yeah, it jumps when i let off the clutch, im figuring its my transmission about to go.

Okay a "marbles" sound under the hood while your trying to accelerate is REALLY BAD! what you´re hearing is detonation. More specifically its the sound of the piston rattleing its way back down from TDC.

I would check your timing. You might be too advanced. It´s probably in some way related to the lunging...but maybe not. I´ve never had my car lunge or jump. In other peoples car´s I´ve driven it was always clutch related.

Clutch all the way. Had a Neon with a bad clutch disc and it would jump every time. What is this marble noise can we get a better description. Always get the flywheel checked when you replace a clutch to make sure it isn´t warped. Most need to be surfaced for best performance.

If I had 400 bucks and the time I´d be havin a performance Flywheel put in my Scort. 9 pounds...that´s all it weighs. Not to mention a Stage 1 clutch. with a B&M Short throw shifter and all the linkage. man if i had the cash...

Maybe a little knowledge about how lightening the drivetrain can help and hurt you is needed.

Anytime you lighten the drive train (cheapest is an underdrive pulley, then flywheel, then custom balanced crank). You are improving the motors ability to rev faster, giving you more horsepower and great top end performance, however do keep in mind that if you do this you´re going to loose torque and your low end.

With a sport compact like ours torque is our killer...Its really helpful that our cars are only like 2600lbs but becareful on going too light with a flywheel. It might help on a dynowheel but not at the track or street.

Fidanza makes a pretty good lightened flywheel for I think 350 bucks. Its 8.5lbs (I think). Aluminum flywheels seem like a big craze, but aluminum is pretty weak. If you do get an aluminized flywheel make sure that its studded or riveted with steel to reenforce it. Ideally Chomoly would be awesome, but being a minority performance vehicle I dont think any company makes one that is for us.

well nevermind about worrying about the marble noise and tranny, i just got into a wreck today, old lady pulled out and decided to stop in my lane, on a blind curve. so if any of you know where i can find a whole new front end for a 93 lx, swing it by me.

Well, glad that at least YOU are still with us, even if your scort´s not. Hope you weren´t injured!
Is your engine damaged from the wreck too, or just body panels?

If I were you I´d check ebay for a car to take the front end off of. A lot of them go really cheap, especially if they´re damaged or worn out. Obviously, you could also check local junkyards to find what you need, or pick up a car that´s for sale locally. Anything between a 91 and a 96 should work.

Hey, if you´re engine´s a loss too, maybe think about upgrading to a GT or GTX 1.8L, or a 2.0L zetec.

i got a question tho, would my transmission from my 93 fit in a 84 or 83..howabout the wheels..im lost on this stuff. howabout my seats.

Your 94 tranny wouldn´t fit an 84. unless you put both the transmission and engine from the 94 in your 84. You could probably make or find some adapter plates for your seats, and I doubt the wheels will fit because of bolt patterns.
