My Tracer is the base model Tracer, no power anything except mirrors. I want to upgrade the aftermarket stereo eventually to something with Bluetooth. I already have a Bluetooth dongle I keep in the car, but looking for a better solution.

I hopped on Crutchfield and it's asking if it had the tape deck and if so if there was an amp under the center console. How can I tell what the original stereo was? Best I can tell I have two front door speakers and two rear shelf speakers.

    TIA

You don't have an amplifier in your dash. that was part of the premium sound package, and from the sounds of it (pun intended) your car doesn't have premium sound.

apparently newer blaupunkt stuff isn't so great. they've been bought out and the quality has suffered a bit. check the reviews on amazon.

The only time you would have an amp for the radio is if you had premium sound, and if the previous owner didn't take them off there would be little plastic labels clipped to the door panel speaker mesh, but premium sound in a base model tracer/escort was mostly uncommon. I myself actually found the amp from a car at the junk yard and I installed it and had the stock ford CD player at one point but I am that odd person who likes to keep factory items, so now I have the premium sound cassette with a factory ford 10 disc cd changer

technically the 10 disc you have isn't factory installed, it's either dealer installed or it could have been installed by an audio store like Best Buy.

mostly done by the dealer. my brother used to work at a deal and did these in all his cars when it was the "thing to do" now he just drops his car off at my place and i do better stuff.

I actually used the CD player in the Dual unit in my Tracer yesterday. Got my wife and I the new Imagine Dragons CD.

So now the Blaupunkt was a non-operating pile, lights were on but no sound. Got my money back and planning on getting a new stereo at the end of the week. Going to give Pioneer a whirl. My Mom had one in her Aerostar back in the day.

That's what I thought but apparently they sold out a few years ago, and the quality went downhill.

    Really disappointing.
