Windows fogging up could be a failure in your air conditioning. If the AC isn't working, the windows fog up more easily.

If you notice a green tint to the fog though.....

I was gazing at the heater core inlet hoses/pipes going into the firewall the other day and got to thinking about an easier way. It appears that someone else thought about it too, and actually has done it.

Did nobody else notice this?? A member has successfully done this....cut a hole in the firewall and made a removable panel that if successful would obviously turn the heater core nightmare into a 15 minute dream fix! Once the hole is cut of course. If anyone tries this, cuts the hole please let the members know how it goes.

Things inquiring minds need to know:
Is there anything else between the heater core and the firewall?
Once the hole is made, are you looking directly at the back of the core and simply have to slide it out and slide in a new one?

Although I will never have to do it that way now either. I cut out a hole to pull it from the engine side. :D
Trencher, I'd love to know the details on how to do that from the engine side!
I dream of being able changing a heater core in 15 minutes, if I am faced with replacing it someday. Can you post the details, or maybe a how-to?

BUUUUMP!

Man just finished doing the install heres some notes

1. I tried the technique where you pull the box apart from either side. I gave her a pretty hard go but i still could not get the core out, if i didnt care about the box i could have bent the inner support pieces and maybe slid it out, however doing so woul indefinately reduce the boxes ability to support the core. i dont know how bad this would be since im sure the piece going through the firewall takes most of the load but i didnt feel like breaking my box so i did the full deal instead.

2. the install is a pain but if i had to do it again it would be a 3 hour thing,

3. some how i dont remember even having to disconnect the blkue plug for the speakers. i didnt have a printout of the directions so i didnt look for it throughout the process etc. end result deck works fine, no speakers wprking. does anybody have any info on where it is located? I wonder if i can plug it back in without having to remove the dash again. i remember unplugging the green connector on the drivers side but dont remember a blue one anywhere..

any help would be great thnx for the how to guys.

bump wheres the blue connector?

bump no music = ghey

Take off the long black trim piece right at the edge of the window on top of the dash. There is ONE screw in the most idiotic spot right in the center. I had to put a TORX bit in it and turn it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I've taken that stupid dash piece out before. I used a flexable extension.

bump wheres the blue onnector for speakers

Oh this is in a MSP. I don't think the wireing will be the same as the escort.

no no i have to work on the speed to get it ready for sale so i dont have time to gut the escort.

Pics: comming soon

OK, so my heater core blew in spring. I just bypassed it with a $2 peices that puts two hoses together, much like a converter from one size to another but this is made to extend or otherwise attache two hoses of the same size. Easy fix at the time when I did not need heat. Tomorrow I am going to be swapping a heater core and the temperature control unit which gave out in the middle of summer leaving me with no A/C as well. I plan on taking lots of pics and sharing them with a how too as well. It will not be like my own since I am pretty much going to put together the how-to's that everyone here has wrote with all the extras people added that helped me and put them along with pics as best I can. I will have to make sure I get it done as I also have to change oil on 3 vehicles, fuel filter on one, air filter on two, and all at a friends house so I cannot spend ALL day on it but I can spend most. There will be two to three of us there (as people get off work and such) so there should always be a camera man. I hope that this will help more people to have the visual representation. Heck, maybe I can even throw in a vid or so if there is a hard part :D. Been a while since I have been here. That is both good and bad. At least it means that I have not had to fix anything on my car. Oh yeah, I am totally going to change all behind dash lights, I knew that before finding this tutorial. Why not, there generally cheap and it would suck to have to take it apart again so soon. Well, Look forward to some more info in the next week :D

Ok, so nothing went quite as planned, was by myself most of the time so I did not get to get any good pics. I did get the job done and all thx to this how-to. Only one issue, I have one wire that I am not sure where it goes and my little computer box in the center on the floor beeps at me everytime I turn the car on now, I may have to pull the dash again. The wire has a grey end and has a black, blue, and orange wire I belive. It is right below the steering wheel. It is going to drive me nuts because it is not all that long so cannot go far yet the other connector eludes me. Well, any help on that one would be appreciated. I could not find anything useful in the chiltons manual. The wiring diagrams suck in that one. Oh well. Thanks for an awesome how-to. Sorry I coould not make it tbetter, but to be honest, I am thinking about going thru the process again, and if I do, I WILL take pics since I know what I am doing this time and will not be just hoping it all works out. I did promise pics right, they will just be late :D
