Seafoaming a 99LX

Kudos to everybody on the Seafoam tips. Sucking it in through the PCV valve works fine, even if you leave the valve on the end of the hose.

Thanks also goes out to TwinLTSs for pointing out the side effect of being able to find exhaust leaks in the process. I just finished with mine, and I think the mosquitos are more offended than the neighbors, but I was able to spot some leakage coming from near the exhaust manifold. The next time I get a chance to crawl around under the thing, I'll get that fixed, too.

It also cleared a P0401 code that just recently popped up. Saved me from possibly replacing a DPFE sensor for now.

The only drawback is that I've got a rear seal that's starting to leak, so I don't think this is going to help that out much, but it did wonders for everything else.

Thanks, guys.

I saw a car the other day making a heck of a lot of smoke and it smelled like burning rubber but it was coming out the tailpipe. Was he using seafoam?

Sorry to bring up a long dead topic, but it took me several hours to find the "correct" vacuum line to do the seafoam with. Here are some pictures of where the PCV valve is located for noobs like me.

Are there any californians using this stuff who can confirm or deny the legality of use here in cali? You know 'cause of all the air quality control here. Don't want to get arrested for sea foaming my scort...( or ticketed anyway).

im sorry to bring this up i know this is an old thread is this the same as intake cleaner? at the shop i work at we sell this and you hook it up to a tube that mixes this cleaner with air (so your car doesnt stall) with the same after affects. White smoke then you have to redline the gears to pump it out of the car result = less pinging better gas milage and my favorite performance

Sea Foam

Sorry to bring up an old subject but i think I can add something. If a person is on a budget you can draw water into the intake of a hot engine and it will work just as good. I did it all the time for C/V and Grand Marquis that had detonation problems due to carbon build up. If you don't believe me check out any motor that has had a internal head gasket failure. You always know which cylinder it is because it is clean.
Also If adding to the oil on a old sludge bomb I would maybe remove the oil pan and inspect the oil pump pick up. For internal oil system cleaning I prefer the ones that heat the solution and exchange it throught the oil drain pan hole and the filter mount. It works better because the engine is not running and trying to suck up those deposits.
For periodic maint. for the oil just add 1 qt of ATF before a oil change it works pretty good and is cheaper. A little brake fluid mixed in with new oil can swell those pesky leaking seals. Works really good for leaking P/S rack leaks.
good luck

Ive seafoamed several times now and the results are just fantastic. If I start to notice hesitation, slow starts etc, I'll do a treatment and the stuff just works great! Im gonna take a vid of the smoke next treatment and post it here. Perhaps I'll just do a full seafoam video and post it on youtube. Im gonna do my injectors today.

well my cars cholesterol level (carbon deposits) has been successfully lowered thanks to seafoam. i do have a question thou. my car did not stall out when i submerged the pcv valve in it. does this mean i have a vacuum leak somewhere?

Wow, MO tags on the white caravan, super start batteries, filmed in a parts store. Hmm I think O'Reilly's has something to do with this video

Sea Foam made a huge difference. My car used to shake pretty hard at a stop light, or even parked. My dad actually sent me back to the parts store to get another bottle so we could do his truck, works great. Good post!

Nice! They use a 1g Escort as the demo car.
