Yeah get another car, you have to get dirty to make an escort quick. Bolt ons are a waste of time and money, I don't care what anyone says.

I don't quite agree with saying "get another car". Any Gen Escort can be made fast, it just takes money. If you want cheap power, then yes, look for a different platform. If you like the Escort and want to invest the time and money, then it can be fast. There are 2 styles of turbo manifolds available(EXP and RS), which can be picked up online.

At any rate, you will need to read through the forums, and find exactly what you are looking for.

agreed! 1000 dollars on an N/A build = 50 hp
    1000 dollars on turbo build = 100hp+

    just rough numbers

Search, search some more, then read what you search, keep on searching, and finally...search until your eyes bleed and you comprehend all things 1st gen (99% of which will be found in this section...so search this section 1st).
NOTHING on the 1st gen is easy or cheap. No real aftermarket support here, which makes anything you do find expensive since it will be coming from Europe, or custom made. However, there are little things that can be done to make the car marginally faster, but much more economical. If you take the time to learn about these cars, and what they are capable of, you'll have a much better idea of what you want out of yours, and how to get there. Obviously, if you've got a question, it's good to ask, but in this case, search first, and you'll find a good many topics on going faster. Of note: unless you want to accelerate more quickly, a stock Escort will already sustain 100mph, so they're quite capable of breaking speed limits, making it technically pointless to want more top speed.
