Hi pplz,

I have a 1,9 L Sefi engine in my escort and i have to redo the ignition timing on it because the engine won't start...the engine will turn and spark but it will choke before the second spark....

I think i know how to reset the timing to its original setting but i'm not sure..

1- I have to align the notch on the camshaft pulley with a notch on the engine block?!?!?!

2- Once these notch are aligned...i need to set the right degree with the distributor by adjusting it to the specified degree Before top dead center.

but what do i need the strobe light for? i don't dig it...
If anyone can help me out..i'd appreciate it :)

Ignition timing on the 1.9 sefi is non adjustable because it uses EDIS (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System). Therefore, you cannot adjust the timing on it.

Unless you have an aftermarket adjustable cam sprocket, cam timing on the 1.9 sefi is also non adjustable.

So, you either have the 1.9 cvh from a first gen, in which case you can adjust ignition timing (it has a distributor) or the 1.8 mazda bp. If you do have a 1.9 sefi, you got problems elsewhere.

His signature has a pic of a second gen lx wagon.
And yeah, you'll have a had time adjusting the distibitor because you dont have one.
You dont need a strobe light, just check your timing (Cam) belt, make sure it's still on mark.

hummm....I haven't had the time to check that out with the ecu reader thing, but i really felt like my engine was offset..

when you change your timing belt on a 1,9l sefi you simply have to take it off and then put another one without timing anything? Is it because the sefi is a SOHC engine with 8 valves only i think?!?

What would cause the car to choke then? i've replaced my exhaust line from the header to the muffler and i finished fiting everything back together in the car this morning. As a reward the car would not start anymore. The starter motor worked fine at the first turn of the key, and i could hear a spark/explosion and then it would choke at the second spark ....unfortunatey i had to leave the job undone cauz of an important apointment.....and then i came here to check out how to adjust the timing of a car...and i found these infos i mentioned earlier..

anyways...if you have some ideas...feel free to write them down hehehe :D and i'll try to clear this out tomorrow morning....
Ciao
