^^if that's the case then which 3.8 TB has the tang at the same degree as the 1.9 TPS?

Its not the tang angle that is different, its the direction of rotation. Throttle position sensors only rotate in one direction, When you switch the side of the shaft they are are you reverse the rotation. Escort97Sport, you should put the original 3.8 TPS back on and change your plug so it fits. If you got the SPI TPS to fit it isn't even rotating with the shaft.

Is this mod work with Automatic gearbox as well? I think that the TB has 2 cables. One for throttle cable and the other for gearbox. How to make a solution for that? Has anyone done that before? If yes, please contact me somehow. Planning to make this mode to mine Escort. :)
hey bud..did u end up getting information about that?

i'm not sure if the 95 air duct would fit but u could go to schucks and pick up 2 spectre air ducts and claps like u see in my sig.

The newer air duck should fit. You have the same motor and the same air box, the only difference is the MAF itself. He's racing the car so everything needs to look stock.

What newer air duct? My own one from a '95 lx? I thought that it wouldn't because the throttle body's to big to fit the hose onto.

Oops, I though this was a different thread, sorry. You can grind the end size of the 3.8 throttle body down so it will fit the stock tube. That's what I did when I did the swap.

so i've heard about this mod a couple of times and would like to do it to my 2.0L spi what is the 3.8L TB from? like a mustang or something? and does anyone have a picture by picture guide? i'm not that mechanically inclined but would like to do this mod.

look in the menu section on the left side of the page. click on how-to articles and u'll find it there too.

does anybody ever go to those? probably not if they're comin to ask these questions that have been answered there.

So let me see if i got this right guys... Im a newb so i just wanna make sure i understand this correctly. I need the TB of a 3.8 taurus ('93) port out my intake plenum to the same size and tweek the wiring a bit to fit my 93 Lx wagon??? Is there anything im missing?? do i need to delete the EGR or anything else?

The throttle linkage is different, so you will need to modify the TB to fit. That is the only hurdle in this mod. You can make the TB pnp by flipping the butterfly shaft. Madmatt and I have gone this route.

Nice so re wire TPS and take 3.8L MAF? ok well thats easy enough. What do you mean when you said " You can make the TB pnp by flipping the butterfly shaft."? Been working on painting interior parts sorry for not getting back sooner.

Thanks again for the info man, you seem to awnser 80-90% of my questions id love to see what you've got done to your car. Im sure id learn quiet a bit.

No problem the forum can be quiet sometimes. There is a link in my sig for my Escort's build thread :D.

You don't need the 3.8l MAF, I doubt it would work correctly without a tune.

pnp=Plug 'n' play

FYI, cars with the 3.8l v6 (wiki)
Anyways, the 3.8l tb can be modified to bolt directly onto your car. There are many ways to attach the tb to your Escort, this is just a more elaborate way.

3.8 tb is on the left.

Original 3.8l tb

Modded 3.8l tb
I flipped the shaft and added the Escort cable linkage.

Then, welded a nub on the side for the idle screw and made a bracket for the original TPS.

nice work man! its early in the AM so i had to look at and then read again but can almost harldy tell its even been modded... Minus the grinds i mean lol thanks again man i think imma head to the JY next chance i get and see if i can find one and one other question.. did you take yours to a machine shop to port out the manifold or could i get away with doing it myself? i mean aslong as its close?...

Yea ive noticed the forums kinda scarce lol. Thanks again man pics help out tremendously!!!

I have yet to finish porting my intake. I've been using an aluminum porting bit with an electric drill, which can be very slow lol. If you DIY make sure to stuff a water rag into the plenum before grinding. You do not want that fine material in your engine.

Man this sucks!!! ive called all the JY that i know of around here and no one has a 3.8L... WTC!!! I guess im going to have to be patient and keep trying my gotta get lucky eventually.

So when you say SLOW... what do you mean... How long have you been grinding on it?

Check ebay for the tb?

Well most drills run around 500 rpm. The bit I have is rated for 8000+ rpm and meant to be used with a die grinder. I might be halfway done and spent about an hour.

These are the bits: around $20 each.
