ok i have read this whole thread a few times but cant find the post again, but someone said something about a taurus throttle body being used on a third gen escort. is that really a mod that can be done, and is it helpful?

Harry thinks that mods make your engine run worse! I had the 3.8 tb h.o header pacesetter exhaust and cone filter on my LX before I got my gt! 215k before I got rid of it. Mods cause engine problums I had all that on the car when it was only a mild 112k on it so 100k with all the mods! So screw your mods ruin the engine thing I know they don't I was driving proof! When my Gt runs over 200k I will also rub that one in your face with my custom cia and rx-7 maf!
The clear signal lenses may be cool looking, but if they're not DOT approved, they're also illegal. They have to be visable within a distance and they also have to have an ORANGE (actualy amber) reflector in them. So replacing these lenses opens up the door to a nice fine from your local law enforcement.
Don't know if this was discussed already, I didn't efel like looking through 4 more pages of posts. It may be illegal in some places, but it isn't in many. Here is an exerpt from the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act ...
Turn signal devices
4.13 (1) A vehicle may be equipped and mounted with
(a) a lamp type turn signal system, or
(b) a semaphore turn signal device,
functionally equivalent to original equipment supplied by the vehicle manufacturer or of a type or make approved by the director.
(2) A lamp type turn signal system must
(a) have 2 lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle, that are capable of displaying flashes of white or amber light which are visible to the front, [[Which is what clear corners do]]
(b) have 2 lamps, mounted on the rear of the vehicle, that are capable of displaying flashes of red or amber light which are visible to the rear,
(c) be visible on each side of the vehicle at a distance of 100 m in normal sunlight at an angle of 45° from the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and
(d) include a tell-tale lamp which gives a clear indication that the system is activated.
(3) During the time specified in section 4.01, a semaphore turn signal device must be capable of illumination by light or reflection visible from a distance of 100 m.
This may apply only to Canadians (lucky us), but maybe not. Just be sure to try and find a document like that and search through it before doing mods dealing with lighting on your vehicle. If you can't find it, email your local law enforcement and if there's a link, they'll be glad to provide you with it.

Well put. I just had to replace my bright white blue bulbs with some amber ones to pass inspection in Missouri. Never had one single ticket, drove the car 32,000 miles with them in it, mostly in Springfield, MO.
Air boxes constrict air flow to the engine. They allow the engine to recieve only as much air as Ford dictates they should get. By installing an aftermoarket K&N intake kit you gain airflow at a certain rate. (CFM). When there is more airflow...the VAM will calculate how much extra fuel it needs to get the correct A/F ratios necessary to operate the engine properly. The result is MORE air and MORE fuel which shows gains in horsepower and torque in some applications. In a turboed car it is much more apparent however than in a N/A engine.
I'm doing some more research on the running temperatures vs. thermostat swaps arguement. I'm running a 180*F thermostat in a 1.8L GTX engine which came with a 195*F thermostat. I'll monitor incoming air temps and the coolant temps ebwteen the two thermostats and get back to you.
I"m not an advocate of swapping MAF/VAM but I may have to go with the RX7 N/A VAM and tune it to my GTX blockinjectors/ECU.
I have a question about mod 5...if I get the Mazda MAF does that mean I would need the Mazda maf adapter to go along with a performance air filter? or would the escort one still work?
I see a lot of 'Ford did this for this reason' kind of posts.... Have you ever stopped to think that in this great nation of ours, they have a tendency to 'downtune' EVERYTHING? 'Better for emissions' they say. A bunch of engineers DID spend 80 hours a week engineering all these parts, but not to provide 'maximum horsepower', maybe 'better fuel economy' but this is in reference to something I saw on page 4.
man this is some good tips cause i only bring in about 150 a week haha cause grocery markets suck at giving me more time specially when your a stock boy
this list can be used with all 2nd gens right? not just egt's
Unless otherwise specified, yes. This is all MOSTLY general stuff, but the timing advance (EGT) is specifically for GT's. The rest is either aesthetic unless otherwise noted.
so ive got a 87 rx7 non turbo sittin out in my driveway with a 13b engine...what all would i have to do so i can switch the MAF on to my 95 lx 1.9
there is probably a thread on it around here but i am lazy and dont feel like looking..lol
