I remember when I had my 87 GT with a K&N filter I got totally killed by a 1991 Sentra SE-R and that made me go out and buy one.

By some of the published quarter mile times a 2nd gen GT is a bit slower than a Sentra SE-R.

My desire is to realistically be able to keep up with a 2nd gen GT.

It seems that a 2nd gen GT has between 12 and 17 more HP than a 1st GEN but it is DOHC and the HP kicks in at a higher RPM due to that yada yada yada...

based on all that, just wondering how much slower a 1st gen is than a 2nd gen...and if a 1st gen was ever fast in the first place, why did the motor get dropped for the 1.8 Mazda DOHC?

Not trying to start arguments, just trying to understand, work with, and appreciate what I have

thanks!

Wouldn´t a 1st gen turbo GT be quicker than a 2nd gen GT?
Ford never made a 2nd gen turbo GT, right?

true, however I am talking about the 1.9 HO vs. the 1.8 GT...your point is valid though...never thought of that...

still I would like to compare these two

The 2nd gen GT does 0-60 in 8.4 seconds and the 1/4 mi in 16.5 seconds stock. The Sentra SE-R Spec V does 0-60 in 7.4 seconds, and the Escort ZX2 does it in 8 seconds flat.
The 1st generation GT with the 1.9 HO Engine, does 0-60 in 8.9 seconds, and the 1/4 mi in 16.8 seconds, so it´s .5 seconds slower to 60 and .3 seconds slower in the 402 meter (1/4 mi) run.

NOTE: These are the figures for posted 1993 2nd generation GT (1.8L DOHC), and a 1990 1st generation GT (1.9L SOHC, H.O.).
Check out www.car-stats.com You´ll see where i get my info.
