    171K as of this month; passed emissions beautifully last month, no CEL, no smoke, and runs like a top. My 99 has been an absolute pleasure over the past 7 years I've owned it.

    Drove past 315,000 miles today, exactly 15K in the last year. Issues in 2015;
    • Air bag system warning lamp (5-3 flashing sequence) recently. This has happened on a couple other occasions in the past 17 years and always goes away upon shutdown and restart, at least so far, thankfully!
    • Recurring service engine light due to code P1443. Sometimes it goes weeks at a time without setting the code, other times it comes on every day. Using my Scan Gauge to reset and clear the lamp. Tried a new sensor and valve to no avail.
    • Replaced rear wheel bearings due to abnormal tire wear and noise. The noise seems to be less as the tire wear has evened out.

    204k. Just short hops to work these days.

    I think it'll end up rusting out from under the motor and my ass.

    I had a check engine light and it was code P1443 on my 97 escort wagon. I also had a strong gas smell. The rubber hose on the filler neck had degraded and was leaking. I noticed a few drips when I was filling it up one time. I had the hose replaced, and everything is good now!

    I wish it were that easy of a fix for mine but I don't seem to have any fuel leakage as evidenced by a lack drips or smell of fuel. Aside from the annoying lamp it runs fine. Not sure though what the downside is of not correcting it.

    if your state doesn't have emissions testing, then it doesn't matter. it didn't affect my car's driveability.

    The 90 degree elbow gets rotten, look up Ford part F7CZ9C987AC which includes both valves and the elbow.

    Are we still talking about the filler neck?

    No, code P1443 was mentioned above which is that stupid vapor line with two sensors in it on 1997's only.

    I rolled 283,500 before parking her in the back yard to rot. NC won't let me drive her on the roads anymore

    Have 117k on one wagon, 158 on the other. Seen a 99 in my tow yard that had not seen 60k. Was apparently grandma's car, grandkids got hold of it and wrecked it into a truck with a trailer hitch on the back. Hole thru the radiator and the exhaust, don't know if the engine is save-able yet. Have to pull the front of the car off and find out.

    134,400 as of today on my Salvage title '98. I've put just over 10,000 miles on it in 4 months. Average 500 miles a week and on track to hit 26k miles in a year. So far so good for a $1400 car with $400 invested in parts + documentation and insurance.
