From what I have heard they are the weakest link in the tranny. The pin that the spider gears are on tends to pop out under high power and grenade the tranny.

I am pretty sure that's been done before. Though if your tearing into the tranny that far you might as well swap in an aftermarket diff.

Keep in mind that this is biased only on what I have read on the forum. If anybody would like to chime in with better info feel free to do so.

There are 3 that I know of and they are all limited slip. The diff used in the Mazdaspeed Protege is popular but it still has the problem with the pins coming out. It seems popular to weld the pins in place before installing it. Then there are the Quaife and M-Factory LSD's. They look pretty much bulletproof. The M-Factory is the cheapest one but as far as I know its still partially in testing. There was a group buy for the M-Factory several months ago, I think they were $650.

the mfactory group buy is just ending... they will be available shortly at www.teammfactory.com

they are for the g-series transmission, and judging from the forum that this is in you have a 1.9. these came with the weaker f-series transmission. you'll need to upgrade to the clutch/flywheel/trans/axles/etc from a 97+ 2.0 escort in order to use this LSD.

i think quaife is the only company that sells a diff for the f-series...but the rest of the trans is so weak it would be a waste of money

Nope, Focus is all Ford. The Escrots/Zx2 use a Mazda tranny.

If you look at my picture, the pin is still there and fine. Welding the diff pin in my case would'nt make a difference. But the spidar gear shattered.

I have heard the FWD Zetec Escape diff's used 4 spidar gears. The Escape has a Mazda tranny also.

yes their final drive should also fit the ZX2, but with a turbo setup getting one of their final drives would probably be going in the wrong direction as far as gear ratio....

as an aside - even though the diff works for the EGT, the final drive will NOT. the secondary shaft is actually shorter on the earlier transmissions, and the final drive is designed for the later style.

right on i was still waiting for the tech guy from mfactory to reply to me on that,
too bad it wouldnt fit the gt for you

? again though why do you think it is a waist for the turbo set up, shifting to quickly? just wondering
