I have a 1992 escort GT and a 1992 mazda protege, and enduro race them both. I want to swap manual racks from my two pony escorts onto them for more power, and was wondering a few things.
1. Will rack itself fit the egt and protege lx?
2. How do you remove the P/S pump from the cars and still run a belt? If it was a escort LX, i would always swap the brackets from the pony's motor onto the lx's motor, but that's a 1.9 sohc, and both the gt and protege lx are 1.8 dohc motors, so i can't do this.
3. Are there any Gt's or any protege lx's that came with manual steering from the factory?
I see a few cars on this site that have this conversion and was wondering how they do this. I don't want to convert my power rack into a manual one, so please don't say just to do it. I know that swapping a manual rack won't make alot more power, but the cars run so close in my class that it's worth the work to do it! oh, and I don't mind taking out the motor to do it!
Thanks!
