Hello,

I am trying to remove the transmission vent on my 1993 Escort 1.9 5 speed. I've posted before about a bizarre problem where the ATF drips on my feet from the speedometer sensor when the weather is warm. I've been through multiple sensors with minimal luck. I've made sure the fluid level wasn't too high, just barly touching the bottom of the gear. I've even tried it a tad lower. I thought the vent was free from obstructions, but I'm starting to think not. I'm sure it has never been removed and doesn't seem to budge no matter what I do. I do not want to damage my transmission. What would be the best way to go about this.

it is basically just a cap that sits on a fitting, you would have to damage it to remove it.

I took mine out a couple years ago to clean it, due to the same problem. Here's the thread about it, the part about the vent itself starts at post #30:

I have the exact same problem, I noticed today that the carpet is pretty oily. It first happened about a year ago when I let the car sit for a couple weeks in the sun. I assume there is some sort of breather for the transmission that is clogged. Then as the temperatures go up and down, fluid...

I use a wadded up chunk of paper towel, wrapped around the frame where the brake pedal hangs. Catches most of the seeping oil.

Hello,

I managed to get it out with some heat and vice grips. It was super clogged. I cleaned it with brake cleaned and worked the valve open and closed with a nail. Hopefully it does the trick. I will keep you posted. In the mean time, thats exactly what I have been doing. Wadding up paper towels above the pedals.
