I am looking at buying a 2002 sedan and was wondering what all changed for those cars. I know the engines are different. From what I can tell, it's a Focus-Escort parts sandwich. The engines appear to be the traditional Escort oil pan, a Focus block, an Escort head, and a Focus valve cover. Are there any other weirdo changes done to these cars that I need to be aware of???

I think its the same engine but they just revised the PCV setup and and put on the focus valve cover. Supposedly they are less likely to drop valve seats but it still happens.

Not that I know of. Given that you already have a 99, the 02 should just be more of the same. Supposedly, the 02 was for fleet sale only as at that point in time the Escort was being fazed out. Suspension, wiring, ect. should all be the same.

Yes, 2000-2002 was fleet sale only. That is why I was suspect there were changes. The first thing I noticed was the differences in the engine bay. I just don't want to buy a car that it will be impossible to get parts for.

you'll be fine with getting parts for it.

One big difference is the 2001-2002 motors are rated to use 5w-20 [edit]motor oil. 2000 still uses 10w30, lucky me since w20 is more $.
PCV's for 2000-02's are usually not stocked at DIY parts stores, I had to go to dealer, but it was $8.

Also, the 02's have all plain fabric interiors, which 'show the dirt' IMHO. 8O

Sometimes, 2002's are listed for same prices as 2000's, around $2-3K.
