There´s a Civic in town with a big scoop right in the middle of his hood. Looks like an aftermarket hood unit rather than a tacked-on addition. I chuckled when I saw it because I know that the Civic intake is at the front, to the passenger side. So what benefit would the scoop be in the middle toward the windshield? Guess my question is, IS there any benefit to having a scoop in the middle? I´d have thought it´d be better to have a scoop just above the headlight, to capture incoming air and force it over the filter. Might be a weather issue... Anybody know? I´d also think that a reversed scoop would be better, as the vacuum effect would draw hot air out of the engine bay. Not an engineer, just wondering...

and ´looks´ of course. i for one would like a ´98ish suby wrx hood scoop tacked onto mine. i remember seeing someone on the old feoa site with it, a red scoop on top of a dark blue or black hood. not my favourite color combo, but sure looked sweet

yeh, "backward scoops" its just called a cowl induction...wind goes over cowl and as it gets toward the winshield, it sucks in cold air...i dunno the potential differences between a scoop and a cowl, cept a cowl could be used to keep foreign objects from coming in more than a scoop could.
