a buddy of mine just bought a 2003 Civic 2- door, i dont care for honda's or their owners (some of em) but he thought he was hot fast crap cause he had ractive exhaust and ame intake. I told him i could take him, so to prove my point, we head off to the old highway up north that same night, and bam! thats where it happened. I crossed the finish line an easy car length ahead of him. Like i said hondas arnt that fast.

What kind of Car do you have and what kind of Civic coupe does he have? I'm assuming you have an EGT, so yeah...you're gonna beat the base model Civics.

If he's got an EX, you destroyed a grocery getter with great gas mileage and 127 hp. If it was an LX, big whoop, you destroyed a grocery getter with Better gas mileage and 115 hp.

If it was an 03 SI, the tables would have been turned. As much as I hate the K20A, it's got a punch to it 160 hp and 132 tq, and it runs the 1/4 in mid to high 15s.

EX is 128 hp, I think.

The older model civic LX's and DX's are like 105 hp, and they don't put it down to the ground as well as escorts. A second gen LX MTX (Don't know about atx) can run with the ATX and MTX civics pretty decently. (The numbers say different but I've seen it with my own eyes.) I've raced 2003 LX's and EX's in my third gen, I can take the LX's easy, and hold even with the EX's.

The reason everyone likes those Civics though is not the base potential, it's the PARTS that you can buy for them. Millions upon billions of aftermarket turbo, supercharger, suspension, body kits, etc etc etc and TONS of people online who know stuff about them and can help. Plus, practically all the engines from all Hondas/Acuras are swappable into all other Hondas/Acuras.

Escorts just don't have that kind of aftermarket, as people see them as a cheap student car that gets good gas mileage and is easy on your insurance. Which is what all these econoboxes are, really. They can be a lot more than that though. :twisted:

the new si's put 142.6 or somethin like that down to the pavement i got a 2000 s/r and 17" enkei 5+ with falken rubber from a stand still hell pank my ass but street start thats when it evens up a little

Don't make me open up on you. Remember, I am a former Escort GT owner to a current 00 Civic Si owner. So I must say, it is quite an upgrade. Bash all you want, but you have no basis for your arguement other than petty biased opinions, so I'm not going to put any stock into it.

I like my third gen... It's a nice car. Gets good gas mileage, has a decent amount of 'zip' to it for a car marketed as a gas saver/grocery getter/beginning family mobile. I can honestly asy I'd take a Civic over it though. There's not /that/ much difference between the Escort GT and a five speed third gen though, James. As far as auto GT's go, anyways, I've never had the oppurtunity to race a 5 speed GT. (My car is about equal to an auto GT. If not a bit faster. Don't throw numbers at me, I've raced Major's and he had header/exhaust/intake, I don't.) Anyways, the Civics are just better made cars. They last longer, stuff doesn't fall apart all the time as I keep hearing about other Escorts doing, and they've got a wonderful aftermarket, as I said before.

And really, I don't know /any/ Civic owners that give me crap for driving an Escort. For the most part they realize that their cars and ours are really not that much different. If you don't insult them first they won't do the same back to you. (Except on the internet where people feel free to let their manners take a backseat to childish behavior. You can't do that IRL because you'll get punched in the face.)

The people I take crap from all the time are BMW drivers, people who think it's not a car unless it has a V8 under the hood, people who who drive trucks, and the old 'chevy vs ford' thing. Basically the same people who hate imports. People who don't like getting good gas mileage and stuff like that. 'Dude you know if you wreck your escort you're gonna get killed. It's a tin can, get a real car.' Riiiight.... Anyways I'm rambling again...

dude i can run faster than the new even si's with manual trannies and im fat :) ... there are new si's at the local track with intake and exhaust that are lucky to brake 17.5 so you shouldnt have any problem beating them. BUT the 00 model and prior are another story. with light mods that si should run a 15.5 easily where as our gts run low 16 high 15 with slight mods. they are deff respectable cars.

The main reason people have so much hate for the civics is because everyone and their brother have a civic. They also think that a muffler and some stickers make them a dragster............


Im no racer i just want a snappy "sleeper" to put these a$$wipes in there place.......

lets brake this down for a secoond.. the statement .. hondas arent fast is true. most of them top out at 120 PERIOD. the tight ass gears they run dont allow them to go faster. however. hondas could be considered "quick" because they haeve those insanely tight gears( my gf;s honds MUST be shifted at 20mph in 1st. where as i can hit almost 36 in first) by the time they shift into second gear you are still making powerband in 1st. they waste all their time shifting all the time.

qhwn i was at the race track las there was a new honda si with all the usual mods and some 500$ cams.. he ran 15.5 and he thought that was the fastest time ever. needless to say, i descimated him. he spent about 3000$ on his N/A car and could only make it run 15.5. i spent about 400$ on my turbo setup running 4psi still descimated him. you can only make a honda motor so powerful... and by powerful, imean spin so high.

ive drivin alot of my friends hondas and such so dont come at me saying i have no basis for my complaints.. basically after driving all of them i have decided that i will never drive/own one by choice.i prefer being at 2400rpm in 5th gong 60. not being wound out to 3200rpm in 5th going 60

hondas fast? no way unles 120 is fast
hondas quick? kinda.. but just due to tight gears.

there is nothing good about hondas.[/u]

just putting in my own two cents here. The older civics i have no respect for. Too many "kids" (im 20, still not much room to talk tho) try to soup them up with pepboys parts and then talk trash about my car. Last week, i beat some kid by over 3 car lengths in Half a city block. he quit when he seen there was no point. and in defense of my self, I have the top of the line escort for my year. (and the best engine of the third gens(Go FPR!))

Im not a big Honda person either, but my buddy has a 00 civic si that runs low 13s. Of course spending 4 grand on the engine include turbo and such will do it. plus he does the work himself. Hes now building a 92 civic cx he stripped and putting a H22 engine in it. The hondas i hate are the ones like said before, fartcan exhaust from pepboys and euro lenses.

All i got to say is that i would stomp a Si in the dang ground. and yeah there is a guy who is my friend and he thinks he can beat me in his Ex and my LX keep side by side with im, so you kow what my GT is going to do. and his civic is an automatic. :eek: :lol:
