i know a lot of u r havin power loss with right hand turns around a quarter tank full while the car leans to the left. mine does it without any leaning and will still have power loss till my steering wheel is straight. and yes it's also at right hand turns only. i don't think it's my fuel pump but is there a problem with my steering causing this?

I cant think what about the steering system would have any effect on engine power, but then I cant think what would cause power loss on right hand turns either.

If I had the problem:
I would try connecting a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold, and bring the hose up from the hood and have the gauge under a wiper blade where I could see it, and try cornering, while keeping track of the vacuum.

Also, its not too hard to uncap the schrader valve on the fuel rail, unscrew the inner stem, and clamp a length of 5/16" fuel line over it; with the other end of the fuel line fitted onto a pressure gauge, which I would also prop on the windshield under a wiper blade. This would tell you if the fuel pressure was consistently adequate & was the same on left and right hand turns.


While I havent had this problem YET, I always expect that any problem an Escort owner has could visit me tomorrow. So Im interested in the cause & cure.

maybe it is the fuel pump cuz it does wine while it does it. new fuel pump was put in last december so maybe it's just an off brand type that will crap out soon. i have a fuel pump/vacuum tester i got from harbor freight tool but it won't hook up to the fuel rail schrader valve. it will only hook up to the fuel pump lines at the fuel pump.

That's what happens when you shop places like Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc for parts. Try NAPA or CarQuest next time.

Try the Autozone loaner tools to see if they have one and if so will it hook up.

Napa and carquest are the domestic motor vehicle replacement centers! i dont go to any other then them. for example i went to an off brand company to get my new driver side cv. i get home and tear into my gt and what do i discover....the morons handed me the passanger side cv. now partly my fault for looking at the product in store and not realizing but still napa had them in stock but i decided to cheap out n find a cheaper seller. use domestic household names when you can
