you know the feeling you get when you want ot fix something? that itch that makes you almost loathe people who have something to fix? i have that right now, and normally i would buy something that doesnt work, but i have a problem. im going to college in two weeks, and on top of that ive looked around too much and cant decide what kind of vehicle i want to fix :? ive looked at dirtbikes, moped, motorcycles, atvs, and snowmobiles. even lawnmowers but i cant find any that are cheap, even if they need work.

does anyone ever experience the same problem?

speaking of fixing lawnmowers, a few summers ago my buddy and I had the an itch to do something. We wanted to build/fix something so we found an old lawnmower that somebody dumped in the woods. I looked it up on google and it was a mid 80's lawnmower lmao. Needless to say it didnt run so we put a 25hp V-twin on it and swapped the pulleys. surprisingly the 3 speed tranny WITH A CLUTCH still worked fine. The thing was dangerous but thats what made it so fun :D we est. the speed was about 35mph. Anyways long story short the both of us got a few injuries  and the lawnmower took a nasty roll on some ATV trails and the rusty frame split in half basically.
Edit: found a pic
That motor is almost as big as the one in my 'scort
If you only have 2 weeks before you go to college thats not really enough time to start on a project. 8O

98escortkid, I actually have a mower I want to make into a go-kart but I need a transmission for it. Its rear engined so it is going to be a beast.

I bought another mower from my little brother's friend for $15 that was stuck in gear and had water in the intake for over a year. I bought it thinking I could fix the transmission and use that but I managed to break the engine and transmission free and now I have a working mower with blade deck. :? I want to sell it but my brother won't let me until I find a trans for the other one.

matt, why dont you tell him that you need the money off the one you sell so you can buy the transmission for the other one?
Because he knows I want to find a transmission for free and if I sell it he won't have a mower to ride around on.

The mower is actually my second fun project. The first was a 16" bicycle powered by a chainsaw engine. Believe me, it is one of the most ******* looking things you will ever see. A 16" Huffy with 12" plastic wheels, a 2 foot seat post, huge old school spring seat, front and rear pegs, 2 chains, and a 35cc chainsaw engine with custom exhaust. It goes about 20 MPH too.

you should post a pic of that.

someone did a motorized stingray bike with a once cyl engine. they have to pedal the bike so that they can engage the clutch.

I need to take some. It has no pedals, will take off from a dead stop with no assistance, and even wheelie if you jerk it back. Its kind of hard to hold a wheelie though because it has no rear brakes and a chain saw clutch. It shreds the front break pads and eats chains though. I guess bicycle brakes weren't designed to repeatedly stop from high speeds and bike chains weren't designed for 7000 RPM.

Here it is. I guess the seat post is about 1 foot tall but it works.

$15 mower that we are going to sell.

The project...

We did some extreme weight reduction and strengthened the frame. We already have a working 8 HP engine for it but I need a tranny I can throw into it. It originally had one of those rubber disk setups for a transmission, it also had a 4x100 lug pattern. It was working fine until I thought it would be fun to bolt my winter wheels and tires on the back. I jammed the brakes on and the diff exploded. Now I'm looking to make a regular lawn tractor transmission fit in it but I need to find one first.

I got a "racing seat" for the orange mower project for free. Long story short, there is this small factory a block away from my house where they make foam stuff for physical therapy and retarded people. They had a huge dumpster full of QC rejects and there were at least 30 of these retard chairs in there in all different sizes. Its going on the mower.

They are vary comfortable and hold you in place like glue. Best of all, it was free.
