My good friends, I bought a new Escort in 94, havent used it much, the front speaker in the right hand door always was messed up, you know, buzzes with the music, most likely the cone has gotten out of allignmet and the voice coil is rubbing on the magnet, maybe the whizzer cone is loose, not sure. I havent taken it apart yet, dont want to make a mess out of it. Any way, the dealer wants fifty millon dollors for a new speaker, so I was wondering if any of you nice guys out there have a couple of speakers in your garage you may want to help me out with. That is is if you replaced yours with an after market speaker for a high power stereo or something. I have the instructions from cruthfield on how to take the door panel off so I should be ok on that. Im running the stock radio/tape unit, thats all I need, I know there is better stuff out there, but what I have is fine for my use.
Thank you,
Grandpa Johnny

Yeah I've got the stock speaks from my 91EGT if you'd like them- free of charge. Just zip me your address and I'll send em out and you can pay me back for shipping.

Although, the stock speakers really stink, and you may be better off just buying something *slightly* better than stock and getting better sound. Even for around 15-25 dollars, plus shipping, you can get a basic, quality sound that stock speakers can't even touch.

Chances are the rattling is coming from some part of the speaker coming in contact with a stationary part of the car. You can address this issue when you take the panel out from the door and you can look around and see what the problem may be. Also make sure that it isnt the window rattling against anything (roll up the window and test it out).

This sounds great !, I hope the speakers are the same as the ones in the 94, they should be. I know it won't cost much to up grade, but I dont want to take apart both door pannels right now, and would rather just keep it stock, I used to chow into my car stereos when I was younger but when you get older you will find out after comming home from work and making your self somthing to eat, a person would rather just sit out front of the house after supper and watch the traffic go by than cut a guys hands up working on the car..Besides you cant see up close, no matter what you touch you screw it up, not like it used to be. Ill tackle the speaker though as it ticks me off.
I will gladly repay you for shipping sir,
My address is:

Thank you so very much.

Alrithty... well I dug them out of storage and I just pushed down on the baskets to see if they moved smoothly up and down. It turns out that one of the speakers has that same "scratchy" quality that you were talking about.

I bought the car with aftermarket speakers, but the person who sold me the car also included the stock speakers because she had no use for them. So this basically means that I have never actually plugged the stock speakers that I would be sending to you in, so I can't honestly say whether or not they would buzz and scratch when actually installed, but there is definetly some scratchy resistance in the basket travel when manually actuated with my hand.

Either way, one of the speakers seems to not have that problem. So if you want, I can send you both, or only one.

Regardless, I think I would recommend just tossing the stock speakers and going with a simple aftermarket speaker. Nothing fancy, just a simple upgrade. It seems that the buzzing sound you're talking about is indeed coming from the speakers themselves.

Let me know what you would like to do.

I'm with siragan, consider some cheap aftermarket speakers. You can get some poly cone Jensens at Wal-Mart for cheap, or head over to K-Mart and pick a full set of paper cone replacements (front & rear) for less than $25.

If you still can just send the one, just the one that dosent scratch will be fine, I just want both of them matched, (the one thats in there now in the other door and the one I want to replace), and I dont want to tear apart the othe door right now. Your advice on some cheap ones from Wal Mart is good advice, I understand where you are comming from.

lol... I'll have your spleen for dinner! :)

Um... concerning the speaker, I can send the one that I *think* doesn't scratch, but keep in mind that I haven't tested it and for all I know it may scratch after all.

Either way, I'll send it out asap.
