New to the forum, been lurking for a bit though. I don't have an escort yet but I have been looking for a first gen wagon for some time now. Several have slipped through my fingers.

    Glad to be here!

Hi, good luck on the hunt!
Where are you located? If in the "Rust Belt", your search will be very difficult.

Yep, rust belt. About an hour south of Chicago. There have been a few that were nearly rust free, but I either didn't have their asking price, or it sold before I was able to scrounge up the money.

There have been others, but I'm picky with rust, so I had to pass

Finally found myself a wagon! It is an Oxford White 1988 GL model. AC, Power Steering, Power Mirrors, etc. Oh and its a 5-speed manual, so I'm pretty pumped to start working on it.

Undercarriage is very clean underneath, but there is some rust on some of the body panels. The paint is very oxidized so I might try to patch the rust and paint the car next year. I do like the Oxford white so I may keep it that color.

So I still have my '88 wagon and will be picking up a GT parts car later this week. Plan is to GT-swap the wagon as much as I can. Engine, bumpers (which are currently in progress), etc. The wagon is showing signs of either a cracked head or bad head gasket (milky oil, slow loss of coolant) - hence the desire for a HO swap.

Once all of that is done I can work on painting it. I recently bought a house with a heated garage - perfect for a paint booth.

I'm envious of car enthusiasts with garages. I bought my house a long time ago and even then couldn't afford one with a garage.

And now I have so much junk I'd hate to think about ever moving, besides which, a house with more property, garage shop etc. is even more unaffordable to me now.

But I've got a line on a money making venture helping a member of foreign nobility get his money out of his country, so I should be getting a nice payment soon to buy some property.

I was able to afford to build a workshop/garage; but immediately had to fill it with cars that are worth keeping out of the rain; a mercedes 2 seater, a Horch, and a 32 Chev sedan.

So you'll be a multi millionaire within a few days. I had that same opportunity a few years ago and didn't take advantage of it. I decided I already had enough money!

Yes!! I just send a couple grand to get the funds out of escrow or customs or something, then the millions will be mine.
    Hee hee, it's so easy!
