Greetings,

I am so glad I found this site. I stopped by to get some data last year for converting my 92LX into a bomber racer for a local dirt track (Fonda Speedway. Fonda,NY). This time I decided to join for the full benefit and I hope to become a productive member with data to share as well as learn.

Any way I am a full time father of three, part time musician, (evlolutionrocks.com) and McGyver/tinkerer.

Here is a question...I have a 92 LX that I was thinking of restoring/rebuilding. The car is decent but what should I look out for before deciding to sink time and $ into it?

Happy motoring.

hey brian welcome to FEOA!
Alot of the members here are very smart people with these escorts :)

Study a lot. Do your research. some members have replaced their 1.9's and 1.8's for the 2.0 SPI engine. from my understanding it bolts right up.
The forums has lots of details about what to do and not to do so read learn and have fun :)

I would say what you need to look for to decide if you should spend money/time on it is mainly: rust. See if there is much undercarriage rust, or any rust coming through at the rocker panels or wheel wells. If no rust, other than a few spots of surface rust - then its worth keeping the car.
In places like Arizona, rust free cars are common. In NY, especially upper NY, rust is likely to be the killer. I have friends in Minnesota who have hobby/collectable cars - and they park them indoors for 5 or 6 months of the year, due to the salt on the roads.
