Hey everyone! I'm weird with introductions but I recently bought a non-running 89 LX to mess with as my first project car a few weeks ago. Drove all the way out to Alabama for it. Anyway, I found this forum when looking for parts and tips for working on it and figured I'd make an account so I can properly watch and interact with everything. This forum and car-parts.com is where I found out you can't find front or rear bumpers for the bastard anywhere. Also that dark mode. Anyway, I feel like I'll be here often, if not speaking at least hanging around trying to learn as much as I can about this thing so that I can get it running again and then after that, hopefully get it set up to do a Florida Gambler! The Gambler is also why I'm not too hung up on finding stock bumpers.

Good to hear from a new Escort enthusiast. I'm surprised you went out of your way to get a non-running Escort.
Mine are second generation so others will know more than I do about your car.

People are selling rolling shells of old Japanese cars for 2-5k depending in rust status. This one had everything still in but just needed "an engine timing". So far have had to replace some things as well, found out the alternator lock bolt isn't positioned right to where I can use it to tension and the accessory belt the kid gave me is too short to run around both the alternator and AC compressor but too long for just the alternator. Either way I still have quite a ways to go before I hit the few thousand dollar margin.

Honestly I was only halfway looking until I saw the price and then I couldn't pass it up.

Welcome to the forum!

What are your goals for the car?

John
As of right now, the main goal is to get it running. It's basically one big learning rig because I haven't ever had a car specifically for wrenching on. After the fact I might try and set it up for off-road and take it to some OHV parks or something if I can find em around here. So far the only one "near" me is up around the Ocala area and that's a good hour and some change out. If I can get it running reliably there too I might go enter a Gambler or something but that's all far future. I think I'm one belt and an alternator/bracket away from running though.
