So I'm looking through the 1991-2000 Haynes Escort Repair Manual in the Brakes chapter. Chapter 9 Section 16 talkes about the Power Brake Booster, specifically testing the Check Valve. I'm having a little problem with the brakes not grabbing very well so I thought I would check it. I took off the short section of hose as shown on page 9-13 illustration 16.2. I then blew in both directions and had no resistence in either direction from the supposed "vacuum hose and check valve." Do I have to take off more than the short 6-7" rubber hose or is something messed up? The famed AutoZone guru says that the check valve would be attached to the power brake booster, but that doesn't look right. Can someone shed any light on this? Thanks
