Reply to questions

I have made only a few mods to the Little Green Monster as my friends call it. I have a friend who hooked me up with a hidden ram-air scoop, it was originally designed for late model Camaros. It required no modifications to fit nicely under the bumper, we located it right in the path of the lower grill opening on the stock ZX2 front facia. We further modified the 'Keenan' cold air system by using a section of 2 1/2" ID radiator hose for a Freightliner fire truck. The section of hose runs from the throttle body to the factory air intake hose. We did the cut work on a junkyard air box (I'm leaving all original parts intact for resale) and attached a section of aluminium clothes dryer hose (from Lowes) that matched the scoop and a short section of a rubber pipe reducer (plumbing section.) I later added a K&N air filter for even more improved air flow. The timing is advanced 5 degrees. I have no horse power or torque numbers to offer as dyno time is too expensive for my pockets.

Now as to address the issue of was the Muskrat's driver letting me have it, the answer is nope he was quite shocked both times! After doing it too him once he made it well known that he was ready the second time. He asked what I had done to the car, I answered "You'll never know, but you can guess all you want."

We're actually aiming for the high 13's for my next ZX2, this one is actually being reworked for SCCA. The next one is for the strip.

i'm calling bs. you could take the air filter out all together and run a hose straight out the front of your bumper, and still not make enough power to get you into the low-15's, much less low 14's.

there is something you aren't telling us, and my guess is what was really under the hood of the mustang... because a zx2 with ram air and a stock 98-03 v6 mustang would be a pretty decent race.

edit - now that i'm thinking aboot it, if it was an old lady driving a real nasty high mileage '96 4.6 automatic, you MIGHT have a SINGLE chance in HELL...

call it what you like.......

A stock Muskrat with the new 4.6, is not as fast as one would think, I've driven one I should know. Now let's also consider this, I know my car, I drive it to and sometimes past it's limits. The guy in the Muskrat may not know how to get his car to perform like I do. I could have probably waxed this guy in my Mom's Grand Marquis (with a 4.6) All I've got to say is this guy got sent to school. No I doubt he'll ever make the same mistake again. Heck, I'd further say he'd beat me given the chance again.
The point to all of this is, racing is all about the driver and driver experience. I know when to shift my car, I know how far past 7k I can go before the rev limiter kicks in, and I know just how to time a traffic light.
I can't tell you if the Muskrat driver knows all of that or not. All I know is it can be done.

Right.

A Mustang GT isn't that fast eh?

1999 Ford Mustang GT 5.5 14.1

and that's the 99 model. seems pretty damn fast to me.
You wouldn't have beat him in the Marquis, because that 281 is geared for highway cruising, not drag racing.

I had my ass handed to me by a stock 2003 Mustang V6. Those things are quicker than you would think.

Finalizing Thoughts....

Let me some what further explain the situations involved in the taking of a Mustang's lunch money....

Ok, now we all have the ability to kill or be killed when Mustangs are involved. Number one, Escorts are lighter in overall weight. Number two, Mustangs suffer from the same factory faults as our Escorts, they are nuttered while still on the facorty floor. Number three, a Mustang driver suffers from a condition called "I-know-what-I've-got-and-it's-more-than-you-got-itis" which makes them vounerable to prey upon. Four, drag racing stoplight to stoplight is never a true 1/4 mile. Five, make your intentions well known when pulling up next to the Mustang. The Mustang driver will be laughing so hard, they WILL miss shifts, they Will miss the light, and YOU WILL WIN! Now after you've shown what your Escort will do, you must be ready at the next light, because now the Mustang will know that your Escort is not a stock vehicle (one thing I don't think I've ever mentioned is that my ZX2 appears bone stock on the outside.) You M_U_S_T be ready to cut a perfect light next time out of the hole, and you better know when, and how to hit perfect shifts this cannot be stressed enough. You have to get ahead of the Mustang off the line, it is the only way to beat one, V6 V8 or hyped up I4.

Now here's a side note for you Rice-Boys out there, yeah you know who you are....
Have you tested your big wing for best aerodynamic effect? My wing is the stock one and I doubt it has any effect at all. And how much does that big ass after market wing weigh?
Did you weight out those big 18" or 20" wheels to check the difference in weight verses the factory ones?
How much does all of that extra stereo equipment weigh? Big amps and BIG woofers weigh in pretty heavy...and...Lowered pounds = higher speeds
Do you run pump gas? You best be running a 93 grade or higher octaine...I boost mine with a little 104+ Octaine booster. Does it work, helll how should I know, I can't afford to test every little thing on a Dyno, I go by feel and my feeling is yeah I get a little boost.

I think I will end it by saying this, it's like Ripley's....believe it or not!

1. wanna drop pounds off your car?? easy..take shit out.
2. umm Mustangs make more power than an Escort and ALOT more torque than an Escort too. without torque, you aint going any where.
3. "volnerable prey" would be anything from a Yugo to a Lamborghini if you ask me...not just Mustangs.
4. drag racing from light to light on the street is plain stupid. you wanna race?? do it at the track where its legal and safe. i dont wanna hear some sob story from you 2 days later saying that you got a ticket for racing and your car impounded and you had to do some jail time because you not only endanger yourself, but you endanger pedestrians and other people driving down the road. racing is done at a track...plain and simple.
5. revving on a Mustang is ghey no matter what you drive.
6. some wing manufacturers such as Mugen actually DO test their wings and they actually are functional and look good.
7. 18s and 20s on an Escort?? that would take too much time to do because you would have to tub your car just to put them on. it would also make your local like ass too not to mention putting more strain on the motor to turn those big ass wheels because they weigh soo much and have a large rotational mass on them.
8. you dont have to have a big ass stereo to have a good sounding one. the only people i know of that would put big amps and subs in their vehicles is for doing bass offs aka db drags.
9. octane booster isnt gonna help you much. oh wait i get it..you get the one that has NOS written on it right?? you just wanna say you have a NOS (you probably pronouncent it NAWWWS like every other F&F asshat does).
10. see my avatar because thats what you are.

whatever

I think I'll keep my kills to myself from now on! You **** can't seem to understand the concept of what I do with my car. I've been racing since I was 13 (go-karts!) You don't know me, you didn't go to the Panoz Raceing School with me, so what. Hell I thought I just might inspire a few of you a$$munchers out there to realize that that F&F or 2F2F crap is for the birds. Hell I can remember being 16 an drag racing (on the street late at night) a 1966 el Camino, now if I can get that big beast to bitch slap '80 model Camaro's then you'd think that yes I can make an ZX2 into a high 15 second car, hell may be into a 10 second car (but I digress that takes full cages V8's and nitro-methane to do.) But if I want to do so and do it in a ZX2 I could - Hell you slimy lil punk ass bitches wouldn't believe it untill you saw it on TV. So take your opinion and shove it right up your ass! After all opinions are like ****, everybody has one and they all stink!

I don't drive a mustang, and i'm laughing pretty hard. :) You cannot beat a new 4.6 mustang, even if he shifted directly from first to third. Stop trying to make us "ripley's believe it or not", because i know you can't, and you need to stop talking out of your ass.

read a book.
