Okie heres alittle info on me and my cars:
I own a zx2 s/r , its in pieces getting a full race make over, especially since winter is coming, its best in the garage no matter what.
I also own a 92 lx-e auto, it has some issue's, some have been with it since I got it. First issue is when I got it , its very well maintanced but burns/leaks oil, just has gotten worse over the last few years. Its still very well maintance just now its getting valve tap and eating tons of oil, within the last few months that starter is going, and now the tranny has major issue's especially in the cold. (Major slippage)
I've done a zx2 auto to manaul swap, but haven't any of the older escort's.
I can get all the stuff for the swap for under 200 easily, well since I'm here I've decided to do a gtx or gtr engine (just need a cheap one). I've decided to stay with the stock wastegate and bov but re-pipe it all and get a new front intercooler, and new exhaust.

Wheres the cheapest to get a bp-t, who do I need to beware of? (not buy from). Is this swap possible in 3 days? (i get 3 days off at a time, I'll be doing it in a friends shop who has a exhaust bender and all the stuff to do it.

Okie now for the list:
tranny
mounts
starter
flywheel
new tb and pb
clutch
pedal set
master cylinder
slave cylinder and all lines
wiring(or does wiring come with the engine?)
pcm (come with engine?)
axles
rx7 vaf (? from reading but not sure)

Thanks, to anyone who can help me locate the engine for a decent price and get me started on collecting my stuff, I plan to do this as soon as I can locate the stuff.

jdm or jap motor shops around here want 600 pick up,
go to blt.com
or barely legal transplantsa, there is a section that will tell you every thing you need to swap a gtx into andy sec gen escort, or protege.

if you decide to replace it without a bpt, i have 2 gt motors...

1st with 130-150 compression that ran alright, it had been run hot before but it didnt burn very much oil when it got warm.

2nd 91 protege motor 180 compression across the board. i was told it ran like a top but when i picked it up to replace my motor (the one above) i tried to rotate the crankshaft, i am not sure if it is a timing issue or what. ill be lookin at it possibly this weekend and if it is the motor is a very strong one.

lmk if you just decide to replace your motor with a stock one because id be glad to ship for 150 bucks (plus shipping) you can have #1, for 400 you can have the protege motor (possibly without the mazda valve cover but with a ford one) that is also partially including shipping.

i also have an lxe and plan on going turbo, good luck

ECU and wiring may or may not come with the motor. Usually it does not. So that leaves you with two options. 1 run the GTX off the LX-E computer and only boost 8.8psi, or 2 get the GTX ECU and wiring harness and run whatever it lets you.

Now to the issue of time. For option 1 of the above you could probably get it running in 3 days. For option 2, unless you can get a pin out diagram from someone or get someone who has wired in a GTX before to do your car, good luck getting it done in 3 days. It will probably take a week to sort everything out and get it running right.

well it goes like this.......

the tranny is pretty straight forward like it was on your zx2.

gtx motors are alot easier to find then a gtR. also its like half the price most the time.

as for the FMIC you can make it work with 4 2.25 U-bends and a nice MIG welder.

the swap is do-able in 3 days. it took me 2.5 for mine with two people that had done it before. those same guys did a swap in a gt in 11 hours a few weeks later. basically we BS'd alot doing mine. lol

RX-7 VAM is good swap. i happen to have one forsale here on the board.

BLT has a group buy going on clubprotege.com right now look into that.

if all else fails and you are tight on cash buy fordboy4evers motor stuff and rebuild one good motor. seems you would have 3 full motors to work with.

as far as time, we did the zx2 auto to mtx swap in 2 days, we kinda bs'd 75% of the time, but at the same time we installed other performance mods, I can get a zx2 engine out and back in under 5 hrs easily. We did the swap live on the internet broadcasting it, and replied to many ppl's questions as to what's what and so forth, mainly why it took so long. Then we started having ppl from all over the midwest driving in up to see the car in person ,we had probally over 20 different ppl come and see stuff.
The rx7 vaf I can get it for 3 bucks :)
The entire mtx swap I can easily do for under 200 but I'll probally buy a nicer clutch, if i stick with a stock bp, I'll probally just run mine til it goes boom, I think it has atleast another year, but I'll do a compression check first to see if its worth my time, if not I know where extremely clean bp is for under 100.

But all in all I wanted to do the gtx swap, just matter that I only have this car to drive for the moment cause the zx2 is getting so much work done. My roommate has thought of going half and half on this truck we found so it can be a fail safe for both of us (he drives a zx2 as well, and is on the teamzx2 boards) , we can also use the truck as a parts hauler.

So if i can find a fairly decent priced bp-t engine I'll go that way , other wise I'll just to a mtx swap. Either way the bp is a fun engine :)

aliennation: $600 picked up for a gtx? You sure that's not the 1.6 version of the gtx? If so let me know where abouts you live and/or phone numbers to said shops :)

tranny wentout tonight, I'm able to hit about 20mph and thats it, sometimes not even that...kinda just sets there and revs ..wont move...

so guess if i can't find a bp-t soon, its just getting a mtx swap..which right about now, I'll be happy with a moving car..guess I'll spend my bday swapping a tranny, yay lucky me

That sounds like a bad clutch to me.
