i just recfently rebuilt my motor(38 mles on it) and the the other day my cat started to glow red hot and along w/ that was my crank pulley went wiggling and the check engine,light came on....anyway what is the most likely the problem?...will the pulley make the timing out/dump too much fuel?...what would make the cat glow red?.....anyway my escort is a 1993 lx w/ a 1.9l standard shift w/ no ps and ac....thanks

normally a glowing manifold or turbo for FI motors means the timing is too retarded. So you actually are having combustion take place in the head/manifold.

I say check your pulley and make sure you timing is right....

the engine got just 38 miles on it and is supposed to still broken in...but the thing is the damper is starting to come-off(might as well put a u.d.p.) in which turnes the check engine light on and the cat started to glow red hot...anyway on the timing i know its on tdc(more or less exact timng) am just wondering on what would make the engine dump too much fuel?...the pulley/damper?.....anyway the engine is a 1.9 sefi w/ no ps and ac and has a standard shit tranny...thank you very much...
