Hi:

I'm new to the forum and just inherited a 1997 Lx automatic with 28,000 miles on it. I've driven it for a few months and would like to add some horsepower and I'm looking for some advice. I don't want to go with a power adder, but I was thinking of exhaust or air intake mods. Do you have any suggestions? How about part suppliers? I'm also thinging about aftermarket gauges, since all my car has is a temp gage. I'd like a tack and a volt and oil pressure gage. If I had a Focus, I'd have plenty of options, but I don't see much around for my car.

So far I like the car, but I'm looking for a little extra power.

Thanks,
John

You should be able to get a stock tach and all of it associated stuff from a junkyard. Most Escorts have them. You'll have to replace the whole dash gauge cluster but I don't think it's too difficult.

I am in the process of adding a standard 2" voltmeter on the vent piece (just left of the rear defoger switch). When I'm done I'm going to post some pics and instructions. Already have all the parts.

If you want to add some power to your car, remove the stupid air resonator talked about a lot here. And find a Mazda with power windows and door locks to get that stuff from, you won't find an Escort with them.
