okay... lately the car has kind of been facepalming on takeoff and all throughout the powerband for that matter, for those of us familiar with the escort, it is kind of like an amplified feeling of the 4500rpm "bottleneck". when driving down the highway at a constant 60 it will slightly bog at first to where i can feel it about tohappen... and then if i floor it it will chug for abuot 3 seconds and then go back to not having any power. coil pack is not the issue(have 2 spare to test) and plugs and wires and filters(cold air and fuel filter is new) are all fine. i'm thinking fuel pump and i was kind of looking for an agreement possibly other suggestions... it just started about a week ago and has gotten worse. fuel pump slowly dying? something? no vac leaks and fresh TB swap with new gasket there...

change the fuel filter, check fuel pressure, double check the air filter and all of the connectors to the TPS and MAF.

Probably wouldn't hurt to seafoam it, either.

thanks for the tips... i've been around for a bit... kind of know to check those... i said the filters are new... and all the connections and vac lines are fine... said that too. but thanks. :thumleft:

My bad, I missed the bit about the new fuel filter. Might not hurt to pop it off and make sure it isn't clogged up, though.

I had a similar problem and replacing the MAF took care of it.

Most folks are cleaning theirs and getting along just fine. I put a reman on mine cuz cleaning it didn't help.

It's worth mentioning that it may take a few days before you see much improvement because your PCM takes some time to relearn the signals it gets from the MAF and correct the injector pulse width.

I am curious about your fuel pressure idea however. Don't you have a fuel pressure regulator on this engine ????

i did just put a new MAF on... one from a 94... but i didn't have any problems at first... gawd i need a new air filter.
