Hey guys, i need some help. I recently purchased a 91 ´scort lx wagon for a VERY good price. i had to replace the clutch which is completed now, but now that i´m driving the car(possibly a lil spiritedly) i feel like i´m hiting a rev limiter at around 4-4.5k. it´s very odd. This is my first escort I´ve owned and I want to do some serious mods (easy to do when you have no car payment, right?) but first i need to get past 4k.

any info would be greatly appreciated, remember i´m an escort newbie so i made need some indepth explanations.

Hmm, I´ll tell ya one thing, there´s no rev limiter until like 6250rpm on an lx. It may be higher than that even. My pony (same engine as your lx) rev´s to 6k easily, although it sounds like it will explode. On the other hand, I´m sorry but I have no idea what would make the car not rev past 4k, unless it was getting starved of fuel due to a clogged filter or something like that.

I know some cars have what is sometimes refered to as a "Limp Home Mode" in the computer. If there is enough wrong with the car it will seriously limit the performance of the car an it will only operate under this program. I recommend checking for trouble codes, and seeing if you have a sensor or two that has gone bad. Also might want to check that all of your spark plug wires are good and in the right firing order.

Ok... well here goes guys. I don´t have a check engine light on or anything. so i´m not sure if there´s a trouble code registering. I also just put new plugs in and i´m not sure as to the firing order of the wires. however the car starts and runs fine, smooth idle, the whole nine yards. I´ve found out also that it only does this when i have the accelerator nearly floored or floored. If i put the pedal about half way down it revs right past 4k. also i have performed the air silencer mod(sounds cool.) I´m thinking that I´m running out of fuel/ leaning out for some reason. I think i´m going to replace the fuel filter today. 133,000 miles of crap might be in it. Oh well. Can´t complain for a $300 car. thanks again guys, and if you have any more ideas they´d be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, is it normal for the "fuel cut-off" light to turn on for about 3 seconds when you start the car?. Because mine does.
