Okay everyone I need MAJOR help. I have access to a haynes and chilton´s...both are worthless for getting to the heatercore. Has anyone done this before ?

How do I get the dash off ?

Right now I have no glovebox, center console, console with Heater control, and stereo, no lower panel above the pedals, the bezel for the gauge cluster is gone, the gauge cluster itself is out. I can see nothing but metal framing and this gray dash part on the top. But I can´t get to the heatercore.

HELP please!

ok you have 9 bols holding your dash in. two on each side, four on the bottom, and one at the wind sheild in the middle make sure if you havent already done it, to disconect the speedomiter cable at the transmission. once you get the dash out the hard part is over.

Hey Chad, how did you get the one at the window defroster off ? I´ve done the 4 lower, and 2 per side.....looking for more too.

Is the metal chassis and everything supposed to come off or is just the molded gray "dash" ?

BTW people....I took this opportunity to start my custom interior. I´m painting the primary "gray" color black, and all the black accents like the bezel around the gauge cluster white.

So far its looking AWESOME! Can´t wait to get race seats, black carpet, black headliner, and rip out the back bench and make a custom box where the top of the back seat is.

Well in the black plastic part (defroster vents) there is 1 single screw holding it down, which is in the center of the vent, look where your rear-view mirror attaches to the windsheild, follow that down and thats right were the screw is, and after you remove that screw it is free to come out, only thing that holds it in is clips, like the ones that hold your rear dash together metal spring kinds (pop clips) hope that helps..

what i did was take one of my bits for my screwdriver and a pair of pliers, and took it out like that. and come to think oy it it may be two bolts holding in the dash at the verry top, near the wind sheild. bummer the hanes manual doesnt help you anny on this. if you need i will check for you on what you have anny more questions about. i still have a heater core frome my 1.9.

PRESCOTT Matt....freakin´ white stuff on the ground and schnit. Actually what I really need it for is the defroster. And ever since I went turbo, I prefer driving with the window down when its like 15 degree´s out...just so I can hear the spool and blow off. (I guess that makes me a Loser...but that´s okay)

Okay I will try getting it apart..but I need to wait for it to stop raining out here.

Thanks guys. I´ll keep ya posted on my progress.

(hey Matt, the shop up here wanted $600 -- so far my cost is 35 bucks for the heatercore and 3 days without a car)

damn 35... maybe I´ll replace mine myself. its gonna be in the garage for a few months anyway. might as well take apart the dash hehe.

I might as well start gutting the interior to convert it to a crazy race/street legal car *L*

P.S. when mine blew it hosed down my ECU so I had to get a new one. BMikedaman sent me one out of a 92. Seems like it did something for power. I don´t know why but my "seat o´ the pants meter" agreed hehe.

I´m guessing the old one has something else going on with it. either that or there were some improvements from 91-92 in the ECU mapping.

dont know if its different on a 93 then a 96, but im going through it right now. to get the dash out, their is 2 bolts under the defrost vent on the dash, one on each side. i think that they are 10 mill. and everything comes out, frame and mat. make sure that you tag all of the wires, other wise its a pain to get it all together, cause their is like 4 plugs right next to each other that are the same. while my dash is out, im painting everything. im going black with red trim. black carpet, headliner. anywho, i hope this helps!!!!
