Hi: great site
I have a question about my 89 escort with A/C the heater core started smelling like antifreeze today my carpet is not wet but I have a strong odor how long can this wait before I have to fix it & how big a job is it Thanks Tim

You can probably put it off for a long time, as long as you can stand the smell. Just make sure you keep your anitfreeze topped off. It is a big job to replace the heater core. It would cost about $600 US in the shop. You can do it yourself, but figure a couple of days work.

Are you sure it is your heater core? If you are smelling the fumes, it could be a leak in the engine compartment. When the antifreeze hits hot exhaust, it smells bad. It doesn´t take much.

Also, ethylene glycol is a poison, and you are breathing in hot fumes. How long do you want to do that?

Replace heater core today easy fix took about 20 minutes. the tray that holds the core in was FULL of antifreeze had to be very careful removing it without spilling all over carpet but got it done new core $17.99 Auto Zone $3.50 gal. antifreeze and on the road again Thanks Tim
