Actually there is a rubber fitting around the steering column that could do that. They may have had to move your steering shaft and knocked it out of place. The only other thing I could think of should be on the passengers side and that is the whole for the A/C. Just lay on your back and inspect the fitting around your steering column for cracks, cuts, and/or misconfiguration. God bless

This is just a shot in the dark, but here goes. How is your A/C system doing??? Can you switch from floor to panel to defrost ok? The reason I ask is because The door that control the switching of the vents is controled by a vacuum hose. If this hose is broke, or obstructed it will kick the A/C system to it´s default setting, which is defrost. If you see any loose or broken vacuum lines under the dash or under the hood you might want to fix or replace them. Also you might want to get and EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) for your car. That is the factory manual that ford Mechanics use to figure out electrical and vacuum problems. I just bought one on Ebay for $10. I´m sure the dealer will want a lot more. Like I said though, this is just a guess. I hope it helps. And if so I´ll take you up on that six pack

pimp funny you mention the a/c......i tried the steering column seal and it is fine. now back to a/c.....i have no freon in it. and i know it has a leak somewhere....my only option is to take apart dash and physically find the heat spot. i have already taken the center consoles out. so wish me luck...and if this is it..what do you drink?

You say there is no freon in the A/C. That Blows.(pun intended) And since it has no freon I take it you probably haven´t messed with the conrols on the dash lately except maybe to turn the vent on. So you might want to check and make sure they still work. Like I said if you switch from floor to panel to defrost and nothing happens then the vacuum is your problem more than likely. On the other hand, I do believe the vent door is controled by a cable and if it is stuck open it will definatly let hot air in. So try switching from vent to recerculate to see if you can hear the door open and close. Its usually under the passenger side of the dash. Another thing... there might be something blocking the door open all together, i.e. a stick, or a dead squirel. (you´d be surprised) I don´t know if it´s as easy to get to on the Gen II´s as the Gen I´s, but inorder to get to the vent on the Gen I there is a little black cover under the hood in the passenger side firewall area. It is cliped on, and can be yanked right off. Under it is a plastic screen if I recall correctly. yank it off too, and see if anything is in the hole. All kinds of stuff gets up in there. Have you ever turned on your vent and had leaves blow at you?? If so thats where they got in. Anyway, I hope it helps. And if it does, you can send me a six pack of Coke to go along with this bottle of Jack Daniels

Oh one more thing!!!! I just thought of this. You shouldn´t have to take your dash apart to find the problem. If it comes down to it, have a friend take a hair dry and blow it across the firewall from underneath the hood while you are sitting in the car, or vice versa you use the direr while you friend sits in the car. Then when ever the person sitting in the car feels the heat from the drier, Badda Bing you found your leak. I amaze even me some times.
J/K Anyway, let me know how it turns out.

My ex had that problem with her 89 Taurus it was the door to the heater blower was broke. I found that out while I was replacing the heater core. I would rather let the hot air blow than to take apart my dash and find the problem. That is a pain in the but. God bless
