Blew a gasket, so I'm putting on my new to me ported and polished head(also cammed with 99-00 cams, Volvo springs) got all my gaskets and new bolts in today. Any tips/tricks, pointers, advice for someone who hasn't been into this block before?[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Not sure if GT uses reusable head bolts or tty Bolts but you might want to check the condition of the Bolts if they are resusable.

Did you find out why the gasket failed? Was the block checked for any uneven spots?

Bought new bolts, and I got it too hot, had cooling system issues, and I'm sure that's why, but didn't really seem to bad till I did a coolant flush after doing all my hoses and putting in a new rad.

Make sure you get all the old gasket off the block surface and maybe put some towels or rags in cylinders to keep any debris out of there. I like to use a small razor blade scraper but be careful not to scratch the deck.

Have razor scraper and green brillo pads to clean the deck. Clean rag and a blower on the compressor. All the hand tools I need.

What should I put on the new bolts, assembly lube? Antiseize? Motor oil?

    Motor oil

You’ll need some thread chasers to clean out the head bolt holes and a compressor with blow gun to clean out the holes. I like to use brake cleaner to clean them out and then blow it out with air gun

    Work carefully and methodically.
Figure out why the old camshafts rusted up.

Hmmm, I hope the crankshaft journals are okay. They probably are, since as a rule rust seems to only form on surfaces exposed to air, when there's both oil and water present.

Sorry for the late reply, got er done that next day, she runs like a top. A bit more pep in her step, and fluids stay where they belong. The heat delete isn't the greatest, but oh well.
